Truncate comments

On my Haas machine I will get an alarm if my comments are to long. I notice in manual entry it has 750 characters maximun. Is there a way to change this to a smaller nuber? Or is there an easier way to truncate the number of characters in a comment?

manual entry typically isn't the problem, manual entry respects the "enter" key. Look at the file name, operation comments, etc...

The number of characters between the "(" and the ")" are too much for your Hass

When you are entering comments in the Comments block, you can use

"Ctrl M" to break up you comment and start another line..

This (the comment is too long for the hass)

becomes

this

(the comment is)

(too long for the hass)

I think your problem is probably related to the formatting of your tool table. The Haas can take a maximum of 84 characters on a single line (including the parenthesis).

 

Most of the time this isn't an issue, I've rarely seen people use more than that in an operation comment.

 

If you create a true 'manual entry' toolpath, it will output separate comment lines if you type your message with carridge returns (press enter at the end of a sentence).

 

Are you using MPMaster? Is this a 4 Axis Vertical? I've got an MPMaster based Haas post for a VF4 (should work with any VF with a rotary) that I've modified quite a bit. I can show you what to change...

Another thing Haas's don't like is spaces between the parenthesis.

In the Control Definition, on the NC Output page, is a "Comments output to NC file" section. Set the "Maximum characters in NC comment" to 75 or less.

I never have any trouble with that problem anymore.

does that work now? In previous it wasn't hooked up to anything.

Maybe for a Default Haas post from CNC Software, but I don't think it works with MPMaster based posts... But I could be wrong.

The setting is there, I also don't think it works as I also receive that error on loading programs. The Haas usually alarms and then truncates the code, but the program is still solid. I edit the heading before saving the file and sending it to the machine.

The Haas control doesn't like anything more than 84 characters per line(at least the ones in our shop). That includes spaces.

True,I don't use the MP Master based post. I use the generic Haas post that comes with Mastercam. If I need anything more, I edit it.

I used to have to edit almost every heading in our gcode, until I changed that setting.

I still have to edit that occasionally, but I just make sure there are no more than 84 characters in the line.

Oh man, I stand corrected. I went back and changed the setting on my control def. It doesn't do anything. I guess just being aware that Haas doesn't like anything over 84 characters, I shorten any line that looks too long.

I though that was my answer, to change the Control Definition maximun number of characters. But it doesn't do a thing. Maybe if the post could count the length of a string?
