Feature Tree is Gone

I am experiencing a problem with importing files to mastercam x2 and x3.

 

When I bring them in from Solidworks I also get the "history tree" that was used to create the model. But when I import an .ipt from Inventor 2008, I do not get the "history tree" it's just a dumb solid.

 

Does anyone know what step I'm missing here? I REALLY appreciate your help!

There is an Inventor direct download available.

 

Have you tried that? It's the only thing I can think of. Don't know if it is the problem though.

I don't think inventor ever did import the history tree, I think that was only for Solidworks.

Ouch, why would mastercam limit the importability? Or is it Autodesk not releasing the code to Mastercam? Perhaps I should put that on the wish list at AutoDesk?

I think Autodesk is a little tight fisted about how they do things, from what I've heard. I think that MC is more than willing to incorperate the history tree.

You are correct Greg, Inventor files will not import the history tree, only Solidworks files can import the history tree into X3 and only if you have a seat of SW installed.

AFAIK Autodesk is on the ACIS-kernel

 

SW and Mastercam are on the Parasolid-kernel

Actually its more like Mastercam deciding that it's not important enough (yet?!?!) to put the significant amount of resources necessary into reading the Inventor (or SolidEdge or Pro/E or Catia or ...) features.

Some of us would (almost wann'a say love, but that sounds a little "none tough programmer like") appreciate it a lot if you would cconsider doing this for inventor

We actually started working on it for Inventor a couple years back and their programming environment just wasn't cutting it... it just couldn't give us nearly all the information we needed.

I assume they've strengthened their API in the years since, so now it's just a matter of seeing where it sits in our list of priorities.

Considering I havn't seen any important complaints since the release of MU1...priority #1?
