Help with a crash file

gcode

Recommended Posts

I have uploaded a file to the FTP

Its in X3 files and named ALT S crash.mcx.

I have run this on several machines and can replicate the crash 100% of the time on three

different computers..all with Nvidia video cards

Could some of you guys try it and see if you can replicate the crash.

You'll need X3 with Advanced 5X toolpaths to try it

Here are the steps to replicate the crash

Filename Alt S crash.mcx

(X3MU1)

Turn all levels ON

Turn shading ON

Start an advanced 5X toolpath

Choose 5X swarf

Select T#10

Select the wall surfaces (brown)

Select the floor surfaces (purple)

Select the "Bottom Rail" button to launch

the chain manager..

You can't see the chain on Level 48 so...

Hit ALT S to unshade the surfaces..

and you crash...

These steps wil crash all three of my computers

with 100% reliablity..

I'm wondering if ATI machines will crash

on this file.

Only for you would I knowingly crash my computer while I'm working!!!!!

I followed your instructions to a "T" and sure enough as soon as I hit Alt S she crashed and burned. Which is wierd because I always unshade or use Alt W Shading Translucency Toggle to see my chains.

I'm going to try it again only this time I will try Alt W instead of Alt S and see if it still fails.

Wonder why I am the only one not crashing

You're not..I sent it in to QC yesterday

and Chris didn't crash either.. so I thought

I'd get a more tests and put it up here.

My guess is its a driver issue.. Your Quadro

FX-500 is an older card using older drivers.

This is the pertinant line from the logger file

of my crash

MFC80.DLL caused an Access Violation

We have been seeing a lot of crashes in the nVidia OpenGL drivers. We did a little data mining on our crash reports and see specific versions of the drivers that crash a lot more frequently than others. Whenever I see a crash report like this and there is an email address supplied I ask them to do the following:

1. First you should try getting a driver update either directly from nVidia or from the manufacturer of your system.

2. If that does not help, in the nVidia Control Panel, try setting the 3D Settings profile to Dassault Systemes SolidWorks.

This seems to work in 99% of the cases.

The other thing to check is how much memory you have on your graphics card. We document a minimum requirement of 128MB. You can get by with less if you run at very low resolution.

You receive an access violation error message when you run a Visual C++ 2005 application that is statically linked to MFC...

Typically, this problem occurs if the following conditions are true:

The name of the folder in which the application runs contains a percent symbol (%).

You create the application under your profile folder.

There are quite a few instances where the dll will output access violation...

Just as a follow up on this problem. I was able to reproduce the crash in X3 using the file that gcode uploaded. However it was crashing in a module supplied to us by a third party so I could not tell the exact cause. It does not crash in the X4 release that we are currently working on.
