cutter comp not successful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

im trying to finish out a bunch of pockets that i roughed out with a 1/2 rougher, now im trying to go back and finish them with a 7/16 carbide so as not to chatter in all the .250 corner rads. The problem im getting is "error computing elapsed time" when i use the same pocket program. When i try to just do a contour around the walls i get "cutter compensation not successsful". uhh, what could be some possible problems or what should i chanege.

Your stepover amount may be too large. I sometimes will fat finger it and instead of .1 I put 1.

Make sure that your rads are a full radius, that there is no splines or little peices. I've had to make new tools or even redraw rads before when I've run into that problem.

I had a cutter comp not successful with path made of lines, arcs and splines. I just went along the chain and trimmed each entity to the adjacent entity, then it worked. Could be a gap or overlap a tenth or so.

I've had this problem before but it's always because I have to many passes in the multipass page.

do you have a linear move to turn cutter comp on

There is a possible issue with using comp on the finish side of a pocket toolpath confirmed by CNC yesterday. Might need to do a secondary 'contour' toolpath to accomplish this task.

I enoxxxxer this issue a lot when changing tools in Contours. I'm still using X3 for now but what I ofund out is the switch to "Use tools step,peck & coolant" option in Tool Settings page is checked on. Often this will alllow Mastercam to plug in default values for stepover. If you have a really small pocket and there's only enough room for two passes @ 0.01" each but the tool values input 0.125" for stepover, this message will appear. It won't do the extra passes but should do whatever it can. Double check all Multi-Pass parameters and make sure you're not taking too large a stepover.

Check you lead in/out if your arc rad is to large it will do this.
