Just opened my file this morning to back it up on my server and got a corrupt file error. No, I am not trying to go back a version. Currently using X4 13.0.3.31.

The message is " Corrupt or invalid file. Contact you local Mastercam Dealer "

Then.....

"Parasolid® Kernel Inerface Error: 922-

invalid file contents"

Anyone have any insight on this one other then save a back up? I am going to turn on Autosave.

make sure the filetype dropdown is set at MCX

I've had this alarm before when the filetype dropdown did not match the type of file I was trying to open.

and..

Turn your backup utility ON!!!!

There is a really useful backup utility

at

Settings/Configuration/Files/AutoSave/Backup.

I have it set to 10 saves (on my C drive)

I leave 3 months worth on a C drive and delete

a months worth at the end of every month..

Not only will it save you from crashes

and this corrupt file issue,

It can save you from brain farts and operator errors.

If you do something dumb that will cost you a

lot of time to correct, just go to your backup folder and open the last save before your brain fart.

This utility is a life saver and there is absolutley no penalty for turning it on.

You'll never even know it is running... untill

you need it.

Personally I hate the autosave function. I much prefer the "Backup" utility instead. This will save an incremented copy of your file to your backup directory. This allows you to have a running backup of the last 10 saves you've done to your file (you can set the number of saves to what ever you want, the default is 10).

I've seen it happen quite often where the last 3 or 4 backup copies in the directory are toast, but there is at least one that is recoverable, and can save your bacon.

Here is the really important thing to note: Even if you have Autosave turned on, if your file becomes corrupt, Autosave will still work and automatically save your now corrupted file.

Bummer.

That is why I think the Backup utility is a much better option...

Back in my V9 days I was doing really large

5axis files. A Save would take 30 to 90 seconds..

I'd been clicking away and autosave would be trying to save a moving target, cause I'm still working.

The end result would be crash and (2) 0 byte files

I quit using Autosave and havn't used it since..

The backup utility is far superior..

I really can't think of any reason not to use it.

It has saved me more times than I can count.

I just installed a 2nd hard drive in my laptop and had my back-up files point to it. I guess everything happens in 3's ....Hard drive crashes lose work, corrupt file lose 4 days, so this is the 3rd time i get to program this parts. Isn't it funny that these things only happen when you are pressed for time and you let your guard down?

Thanks for the advise I will be backing up on a regular basis.
