Dynamic Planes breakthrough

Since its introduction in X4, I have never been able to get Dynamic Planes to work properly.

Periodically, I'd read through the help and try again.

I could never get it to work . the genome would not obey snaps.

It wouldn't lock on edges , endpoints, arc centers or anything.

I even signed up for the free Mastercam U classes for maintenance customers and watched

the Dynamic Planes video a couple of times

Still wouldn't work.

I started thinking I'd found a bug.. or the

resolution of my 24" screen was jacking up

the auto cursor..and started working up a bug report to send in.. when I finally solved the problem. Naturally it was a BSAK issue

When I was grabbing a handle to rotate or align

an axis I WAS HOLDING DOWN THE MOUSE KEY, like you'd drag a window. and auto cursor wouldn't work..

The solution is simple, left click the genome handle once, LET GO and hover over your desired snap point. It very simple once I got the annal cranal inversion issues resolved

 

I'm confessing to this humilitating brain fart

in the hopes it will help someone else who is

struggling with Dynamic Planes.. and its sister

enhancement Dynamic Xform..

I like it more and more everytime I use it. I always find more things it can do.

It would be nice to be able to snap to a surface normal from another origin point instead of only "on" the surface.

 

A couple of weaknesses but a nice addition for sure.

John not surfaces, but it will do ti for solids. I have my X,Y and Z all set at .001 and my angles set at 1 deg. Yes the length bar look weird, but you can snap once you are in X,Y or Z real quick so not that big of a deal. Wish it would switch to liners verses angle quicker that sometimes is a pain.

Gcode thank you for sharing this will be a point I will watch for with my students. I use the Dynamic stuff more then any thing for my planes and WCS and it is just a habit do things we are comfortable doing and it's hard some times to break down what we are doing wrong. good job..
