A V9 performance issue

The machine is an XP Pro x32 with all current updates

Video card is a Quadro FX 1800 running the latest greatest drivers

V9 lauches OK and opens files OK, but any command hangs for 20-30 seconds when user input is required.

This machine was about 3 months behind in its Windows updates and I ran updates a couple of weeks ago.

It's not my machine and I'm not real sure when the V9 hang started, which makes trouble shooting more difficult.

X4MU4, SolidWorks, Vericut etc etc all run fine

ant ideas or suggestions..

I was thinking of a repair install for a first shot.

So far I've done a repair install

Uninstalled the video drivers and reinstalled

to an older pretrouble version

Deleted the config file and restarted

Set mouse themes to None..

None of this helped..

This is a dual screen setup and the mouse workes fine on whatever screen V9 is not on..

as soon as it hits the V9 graphics area it freezes for 20 to 30 seconds..

Very strange.. all suggestions are welcome headscratch.gif

He is moving up.. but we have a lot of V9 legacy files... and there is no reason V9 shouldn't run on this machine.. The OS is XP Pro, the machine

is a Dell workstation and V9 has run great on it for 2 years.

We swapped out the Quadro FX-3450 for an FX-1800

but both use the same drivers..

Well Gcode, as you say all suggestions are welcome....

1) Turn off OpenGL in Screen/Config (but you lose shading that way)

2) take down the graphics hardware acceleration in Windows display properties (usually one notch above minimum will do do it)

It's bound to be related to graphics in some way, always had hanging type problems in V9 with newer PC hardware.

Rich.. those were some of the first things I tried. I'm thinking its the mouse drivers

combined with the new graphics card..

You wouldn't think changing from a Quadro FX-3450 to an FX-1800 would cause this, but its the

only hardware change that has occurred since V9 went south.

The mouse is a Logitech G500 and has always worked perfectly. I think I'l try updating the mouse drivers next..??

If all elese fails I'll try putting the old video card back in.

  • 2 weeks later...

An update.. we pulled the new FX-1800 video

card and reinstalled the FX-3450.. problem solved...didn't even do a driver reinstall

I'm sure there was a driver solution to this

but it wasn't my machine and time to experiment

was limited..

bottom line..

Its getting more diffiiclu to run V9 on modern hardware

Yeah, "V9 guys" are getting to be like the SmartCAM users of yore. Using software that's a decade old then grip when stuff does not work. headscratch.gif

Get with the program and get updated is my motto.
