Hello everyone,

 

re: Mori Seiki NL2000Y/500

 

I am wondering how this machine would work on a high-speed(hopefully) aluminum milling/turning job. Lots of surface milling at max feeds and speeds with .50-.750 dia end mills.

 

Does anyone have any experiance with this machine or a similar model? I am trying to get a feel for how substantial the live tooling heads are and also what the HP is on the live tools and how rigid it would be when milling.

 

Any info would be much appreciated.

your only gonna get about 6000 rpm outta the

live tooling so it kinda limits your small tools

I use dynamic milling all the time our our NL2500Y. You will run into speed limits when feeding around a boundary in X/Y.

 

Surfacing it does really well, just need lots of memory.

There is a 12K RMP option for Live tooling on that machine but it requires special live holders. I would get that.

I appreciate the info. What is the rigidity like? It is similar to a light CAT-40 machine or ? Also, do you know what horsepower is available to the live heads.

Ours is pretty rigid. HP is going to be your limiting factor but in AL you should be OK.

MT Tooling has both axial and radial tooling that are 2:1, So they will run at 12000 rpm. Make sure you factor in about $40,000 for live tooling though. Get double turning holders as well. Use two tools on the same station and use Y axis to move each tool to center. We bought one in March.

havent got the bill yet, it was pretty
