Belt driven Hass has no guts

Recommended Posts

I wonder if anyone is using a new Haas (VF2SSYT). It is belt driven and does not have the torque to cut at low speeds. I tried a 4 inch saw cutter, 1/8 thick, 100 rpm, 1.0 feed rate, small cuts and the cutter would actually stop as it was cutting. I also have had to replace drive belts twice in 2 years because apparently the coolant is sucked thru the gear box with the fan on the top of the machine, and over time, breaks down the belt and it has to be replaced. Anyone have this problem?

only Haas' 12000, 30 hp direct drive does not employ belts, i believe.

other G/B and non gear still use belt(S) between motor..

Ran a vf3 from the early 2000's that came with only one belt. pretty easy to blow it out. Tech said the spec was change to two belts.

gearbox machines have lots of torque on the low end.
