I am having issues using the new dynamic core milling on McamX-6. is it possible to use this operation say like on a piece of pipe and you want core out a channel on the end. so this is a open pocket. I want to bury my tool 1" deep and core mill out the material. Is it possible or am I barking up the wrong tree? any help would be great. thanks.

For the type of op you're describing you should probably use one of the Surface Rough or Surface High Speed toolpaths. Using a 2D toolpath would be alot less efficient. You would be cutting alot of air and probably not get the finish you're expecting.

I was looking for something else and this came up.

I've started using the 2-D dynamic milling for lots of open pocket stuff. Because you can bury the cutter and the load is minimal it's a great all purpose path on different planes.

if you have two chains - basically one is your boundary, and the other is a channel outsite your boundary, it will do exactly what you describe

Something like this? Cuts the green chain, avoids the red.

100% fastest way to go for open pocket. NO air cutting, rapids to full depth, no tool barking. Check out my sig for feeds and speeds.

Well how big can you go, we machine some 6" pipe; it would have to be a pretty long endmill. I would load these on a 4th axis and machine one side at a time.
