FBM drill the way to tap multiple 5ax holes?

I have a left & right hand part with 53 tapped holes, all are 10-32, same thread depth but no 2 have the same vector or hole start Z height. I've not used FBM drill before but this seems it might be the way to go vs. 53 seperate drill and tap operations,twice. Is this true or am I looking at getting carpal tunnel on my mouse hand/wrist. If so where can I find a tutorial.

Verisurf hole axis.

Never used FBM so I can't say for sure it wouldn't work.

IMO, using multi-axis drill toolpaths would be the way I would tackle this. Start with Verisurf hole axis to gain a point and vector line, then using multi axis drill tool path, selecting points and lines should be the quickest path to completion. Hope this helps

I think it will created a toolplane for each hole and a drill op for each hole and each tool automatically.

if you use 3 tools you'll end up with 159 operations

the resulting gcode will be 159 canned drill cycles or a mile of point to point depending

on machine and post variables.

someone who knows what they're doing will get it done in 10 minutes.

 

Personally, I'd use Verisurf holes axis and pierce point to create 53 lines.

That leaves you with 3 5x drill ops and a mile of point to point or 3 canned drill cycles

Right now Verisurf and writing 159 programs is what I'm doing and looking for a better way. Looks like I was on the right path with FBM drill. I was getting 3 windows of errors but I'm down to 1 now. Gcode where is a tutorial on FBM drill?

use fbm drill to create tool engagement vectors and points. Then create a 5 axis drill toolpath to all the holes.

use the FBD as it replaced the 5axis drilling. well if your using X6. works pretty good.

I got it to create a drilled hole pattern to all the holes. Now if I can get it to write the center drill and tap routine too. I guess thats asking alot but the documentation page says I should be able to do it.

it will do it, just use the check boxes for that.

you have to go to the hole recognition page an tell it that the hopes are tapped holes

Please contact your Reseller for a copy of the FBD tutorial. This tutorial does a great job of explaining the features of the FBD toolpath.

Thanks Colin, I will. I've been reading the documentation and I understand about co-axial holes. Same hole, different tool. Ctr drill, drill, tap on same vector. I am having trouble getting it all sellected but I hope the tutorial will help.
