2D Dynamic Toolpath in X6

What toolpath would I use to create this toolpath?

 

The instructions I have are telling me to use a 2D high speed dynamic mill toolpath. That isn't a toolpath in X6. I've tried all the dynamic toolpaths and cannot reproduce this.

I would use Oldschool 2d pocket Morph Sprial

I understand the full depth small stepover route also

But if its a solo part and the owner wants the spindle spinnin

and chips flying thats what I would do.

Then start setting up the other machines.........

This is an assignment I have to do. If I were making the actual part I would do it differently as well. But I have to use one of the high speed dynamic toolpaths I think. But I can't find the right toolpath to use in X6 that creates this path.

Dynamic core with solid linking. Set the bottom face as your machining region and set the walls (or top of the walls if they are completely vertical) as avoidance regions.

I would use it in Aluminum for sure.

you have to chain basically the outside shape - not just the one chain on the outside but the whole 'face'

I got it to work as mentioned using solid selection at work. Works great. Getting ready to do it here at home in the learning edition. Will post my results.

Can you back save to an mcx-5 file by any chamce? would be keen to have a look and we arent up to X6 yet

Unfortunately X6 doesn't allow that option as far as I can tell

Wireframe and 2D dynamic get along fine. Here's a 2D DY-Core example. Area works for the slot just as well although in this case, peelmill would be the ticket for the slot.

 

Machining region is what we want to remove.

 

Avoidance is the shape we want remaining.

 

1st screen shot shows the raw stock, let's say a rectangle with stock at +.10 all around. This is the machining region, in brown. The dark blue is the avoidance region, or the shape we actually want.

 

3rd picture shows the slot through, DY-Core again. Dark purple is the machining region, 2 green chains are the avoidance regions.

Are you using X5 or X6? Because if I were using X5 I could have done this with wireframe. But in X6 the dynamic toolpaths aren't the same. And I couldn't get the wireframe geometry to work. The solids worked fine.

Hey MCM, I cannot get that dynamic core to work on this part at all using wireframe geometry. For my first chain I select the top of the outer wall. My second chain is the floor.

And here is what it gives me:

 

Using solid selection I get this:

X6, pure wire frame. Create a chain for the floor. (machining region). Make sure it's closed and that the opening overlaps the entance edge. Create the avoidance chain on a seperate plane, make sure its closed.DY core should work, entering the cut from outside. Area will helix into the cut from the inside.

Ahh, that got it. Thanks MCM. When I created a chain covering from the stock boundary to the chain around the internal wall of the top of the part and picked that second it works just fine using chains. Your explanation helped.
