We reinstalled v9.1 to a new PC, and a few things are missing.

When I used to chain a contour there were little arrows that showed the direction of the chain, after the reload, there not there anymore. How can I get them back?

Also, mastercam used to make sounds, now its silent, how can I get that back?

When I go "file-get" the right side of the box is missing, it has something to do with running the fonts at 125% so the graphics are larger, has anyone ran into that problem?

I don't remember V9 making sounds, could you be thinking of a Windows sound when you click on something?

This sounds like a video issue on the PC. Either your using onboard video, have bad drivers, or ATI grapics.

 

I believe it's Windows that makes the sounds, not MC. You'll have to check your sound scheme in audio settings, test a few things in windows without MC running, like minimize, maximize, critical error and so forth.

you should replace that video card.. ypu can probably find an of XP rated quadro card

on ebay for $50... that's a much better solution than turning off Open_GL

The most recent drivers say that its using OpenGL version 6.14.10.11796 in the Catalyst control center, which we just installed. But the chaining arrows still aren't working. I didn't disable OpenGL in the system as recommended, does this still need to be done?

I don't know.. I had terrible trouble with an ATI card in early V9 days

switched to Nvidia graphics cards and never looked back.

You may want to try adjusting your Windows video settings for "Best Performance"

XP Windows eye candy can cause a lot of trouble with V9.

Turning off Open GL would be my last resort as that is turning off all the performance

you bought the high dollar graphics card for.

I don't see anything in WinXP for best performance, but do you agree that the missing arrows are related to the card? If I hit revers I get two arrows, but it doesn't matter which one you click on, it reverses the chain.

Turn off your hardware acceleration on your video card and you will get your chaining arrows back. This will take care of all of your video issues in V9

We tried turning hardware acceleration because of driver problems, but the mouse and scrolling became very jerky, I didn't notice my arrows came back, but will try it again. How do I turn off openGL?

You need openGL on. If your mouse is jerkey then use a simple logitec mouse.

I tried an ATI card a while back (Mastercam X3 era) and also did not get any chaining direction arrows unless I disabled hardware acceleration. Nvidia is the only way I will go now.

Yes, the IT guy here at work logged on to make the change, do you have to turn it all the down? After you did this, was the mouse and scrolling very jerky? Scrolling was happening in chucks after turning it down.

A Quadro video card is the solution.

The old line is Quadro FX and I know they will run on XP machines

the new line is just called Quadro..

They provide much more bang for the buck that the old Quadro FX line

but I don't know if they support Win Xp.

google Quadro FX-1800 .... that will solve all your problems and give you MUCH better performance than your have now.

You should be able to find one for $250 -$300 .. try Compuvest

Turning off hardware acc worked, and I have my arrows back, but really showed down Firefox, it scrolls in big chunks. I didn't mess with OpenGL, so it running. I do have a simple optical Logiteah mouse. Were going to look into a Quordro 2000 vid card.

that's a sweet card, but it's a new model.. make sure it supports XP before you buy it
