lathe grooving

Hello everybody ,

Trying to cut simple groove 0.25 inch wide by the grooving tool .

Insert with (D) 0.25 inch .

Groove definition- 1 point .

In the "groove shape parameters " checking "Use tool with" number is 0.26 inch .

Can some one explain ,why it happened an how i can make this number right ?

Just curious, but why are you using a .25 wide tool to make a .25 groove? Try using a .125 wide insert, rough and finish to size.

It takes into account the stock you are leaving....check the stock to leave you have set on the groove rough params tab.

Make sure you adjust your Rough, Finish, and Lead In/Out parameters. Once I adjusted the backoff percentages (I changed to distance, and set to zero), and the Lead In/Out as vertical plunge moves, the tool width showed ".25" in the parameter field...

I'm alive, still trying to figure out if thats good or bad though.... LOL

To do this, I use the 2 points chaining method

then go to rough paramters set stock to leave to 0 and number of cuts to 1

and turn finish off
