opening old files

we have recieved a lot of files (about 450) of our mould electrodes and cav details from one of our outside contractors who has closed shop.

we need to access some of the solid models, but he used V7 and we have X6 here.

i am only after the surfaces and solid models created, not the tool paths etc

is there a converter program availble?

or what is the earliest version of X that will open them?

(we have back to X3, if we can find an old computer to run it as we upgraded to 64bit recently)

X5 will open them

I keep a copy around just for that reason

Gcode, I see X5 going back to V8 not V7 unless some chook you know of?

V7 files IIRC need to be opened in V9, saved then opened in X

 

I forget if the original X could open V7 files

you could get V9 running in a virtual machine, maybe your reseller could get you a copy.

Yes this is a pet peeve of mine... Mastercam can't open their own older files. We still have tons of files (.GE3, .MC7) yet to be converted.

i agree, i have thousands of files going back to the early 90's. i still have a machine at home that will run MC V3

No I am mistaken, X5 only goes back to V8

I have an installation of V9 on one of our workstations just in case I need to open old files.

V9 will run on Win7x64 if you are using a nethasp

It's best to go with V9, even for V8 files..

I've run into many V8 files with solds that open fine in V9

but will not open properly in X versions
