surface high speed (core roughing) blowing through radius but not shown on verify?

Well I just found a new one. running a surface high speed core roughing pass. Everything looked great on verify starts running everything sounds good, start finish pass then notice more than a dozen corners have been taken out with the roughing pass. Can anyone help, this was not showing on the verify.

from what I can see the tool must not have come to the specified height before it move across the part.

What was your roughing feed rate? Did the machien maybe over travel during the roughing operation because the feed rates were not being accel/deaccel during the cut using the functions in the machine to prevent it?

no it doesn't have dogleg as far as I know they are older okumas particulary evs 4020 with mac man

Check you retract, under linking parameters, set it to full vertical retract. I think the default value is minimum retract.

 

Minimum retract will sometimes trash the part, and it will not show up in verify because they are rapid moves

Ya the minimum retract was selected. why would that not show a crash though in verify. I scraped a $1000 BECAUSE OF IT! It makes no sense. Thanks guyinthedesert

Verify doesn't show rapid moves, so you can rapid through the part and it won't show. I programmed a gazillion parts with surface high speed w/ min retract and never had a problem. Then, one day, I had the same experience you just had. I always keep it at full retract now.

(I also rely on vericut too, it WILL show it)

Verify doesn't show rapid moves,

 

Verify shows rapids - in straight lines, and when the moves are for paths on the same plane. If your machine doesn't have GOO Slope Constant, (IE, if your machine dogleg rapids) verify won't accurately show rapid moves.......until now that X7 is out. There is a setting in verify for doglegs.

Anytime the toolpath goes to G00 you hand control of the toolpath from your cam software to the machine, and all bets are off. Keep it in feed move.

I've never had a problem with minimum retract, and I always use the HS toolpaths as 1st choice.

That said, I'm still working X5...

Been using min distance for along time now with a 500 feed and it never needs to retrack

as it feeds to the next cuts at a giving distance. The default is like .150" and it stays that

closes to the part as it high feeds to the next move.
