Machine was rebuilt a few years ago.  Don't know what the axis sounds like, they where in the process of moving the machine, it was used on cast parts, stainless, cast iron.  As I mentioned, they where using this machine last week for making parts.  We have the floor space, the only thing would be the cost of setting up the machine.  We are currently inquiring on that.

Would NOT do it for any price. That conrol is a PITA. There's like ONE guy on the West Coast that really knows that machine and he doesn't work for Makino anymore.

JM2CFWIW YMMV

15m isn't that bad, but it does depend on how it's optioned and if it has some sort of oem face on the control, not sure if Makino did that back then or not.

Now that you mention that it cut cast, that about makes it boat anchor worthy. Assuming you meant cast iron anyways.

Cast parts, Iron and Stainless. There's a reason they are sellin' that boat anchor... it ain't worth the powder to blow it up.

Truck it down to the local High Power Rifle Shooting Range so they can have themselves a nice target.

The machine isn't necessarily garbage. It could serve you well for awhile, if you have the right work for it.  I'd call Makino first and ask them some detailed questions about support. All of those mid 90's Makino MC98 and MC86 machines seem to always sell for basically scrap value, and I have to imagine there is a good reason for that.

Thanks everyone.  We have decided to NOT get the machine.  Through advice here, and talking to the guy who had worked on this machine.  And more information we got on what it would take to make it work with just 2 pallets.  It was part of a 15 pallet cell.

You're a smart man...

You just saved yourself grief you can't begin to imagine.

Unless you can rig it yourself, I agree. But the whole "used up" thing, depends what kind of work you do. Its nice to have a cheap spindle to do weldment work on or nasty fiber glass parts. That way you dont have a 400k spindle tied up waiting on inspection etc. .02
