Hwacheon Hi Tech 850

Recommended Posts

We've got 3 early 80's vintage Ikegia bed lathes

Ø36" swing x 144" Z travel

They are all getting old and its getting harder and harder to build good parts with them

One went down hard yesterday.. Either the main spindle bearings are gone

or the transmission has is toast.

We've been looking at one of these

for a while.

Anyone have any experience with this brand or model??

Anyone have suggestions for other brands with this capacity??

We're looking for

Ø36" swing and 144" Z travel

I'm pushing hard for y axis milling as well

It looks like Doosan makes similar machines

Since the Ellison - DMG/Mori divorce, Ellison is selling Doosan these days

A small shop I used to contract for has a couple of small Puma's which were pretty good machines

re Y axis travel

most Y axis slant beds don't have much travel

Just enough to mill slots or thread mill a hole

More would be better.. but +/- 3.9" is better than none

G - I know nothing about Hwacheons apart from they move about from dealer to dealer over here.

Do Samsung make anything that big (Korean)?

I'm assuming Doosan does?

These boys are UK http://www.xyzmachinetools.com/index.cfm/machinetools/ExtraLargeLathes.Home but owned by Southwestern Industries.

I can vouch for the Siemens but don't know who makes this iron for them. Their CNC's are King-Rich (Taiwan) which is very good and exceptional value for money.

Obviously these are 2ax though, but depending who the manufacturer is, they may have a driven tool option? Could be worth a phone call?
