For everybody to understand my question:

A customer of ours receive Gerber (lots of) files from their customer, convert them in a PCGerber software (I had never heard about it before this), convert the geometries creating all points of the geometry (endpoints, circles, etc. - It can´t convert even in DXF), read those points in Mastercam with ASCII convertion, create all lines and circles again (it´s a crazy thing, they make electronic boards) and then machine the part with Wire.

It´s a nonsense to do this way, don´t you agree?

In order to clarify smile.gif

Gerber is or was used extensivly in the graphic arts about 20 or 25 years ago, this preceeded almost all cad systems and graphical fonts as we know them today.

It was used mostly for cutting many different font styles on decals for advertising, this was done on a plotter type system with a small blade.

Very slick and fast when considering age and propietary developement.

Regards, Jack

Several of us here at CNC worked at one or more of the Gerber companies - they're right down the highway from us. Most of us worked on Gerber Systems Technology's SABRE 5000 - a UNIX-based CAD/CAM product that was sold to a very small customer base. That software is now owned by a company in Germany.

The Plotters (and sign making, and apparel design/cutting, and publishing) come from different divisions.

And we're loaded with ex-Cadkey people too (they used to be just down the highway too) so we've got lots of man years in this industry!
