importing operations

I am producing thermoform mold cavities. many times I will receive a solid works file, program it and then changes to several surfaces are required. I need to retain old files as we never know which revision will be used. my question is this... I like to import all ops. into my new model, however operation comments do not show in the new file making it difficult for me to remember what is what whith over 70 ops. at times. is there something i'm missing? lately I have been opening the old file, resaving, importing the model and reselecting geo. Just looking for input. thanks in advance.

That's the way I did it when I was toolpathing similar prototype models. I would rename the file delete the model and bring in the new Iges. For 2D cuts I would select the new chains to cut and for 3D, the new drive and check surfaces. Regen all. Bingo.

Try to split your operations to the big ammount of groups ,managing your operations to the stages and kinds and import them preserving groups names .

70 ops in one operation group is too much for me .

I never put more then 5

Did you save the operations to an operation library? I find that if I "Save to Library" from the operation manager right-click menu, when I "Get from Library" the operation comments are still there. Save the ops from the original file, convert the new geometry in - deleting current file in process, and Get ops from library. Re-select the geometry from the new part and re-generate the operations. HTH

I agree with Peter, Save ops to library, then get from library for the new model. All coments, and paremeters will be the same. Just need to re-select geom. Works for me!

What benefit does importing ops from job setup versus importing from ops manager get you ?

Importing ops from your library in the Ops Manager lets you bring in operations you like to use. Importing from the Job setup lets you bring in the entire job or portions of a similar job. The benifit of this allows you to bring in the same tools, matl,and stock. Nice for sister parts, Thats what its for.
