This is what its all about. I just recieved an Iscar Heliturn to test. .25 d.o.c., 600 sfm, .035 ipr ( not .0035 but .035 ). eek.gif material 1045, 1.5" hex stock. Chips hittin' the inside of the guard like freekin bullets, operators duckin' 5 machines away, heads stickin' out from around corners thru the whole shop. This is way cool biggrin.gif I'm about to crank it up to 800 sfm and .04 per rev. eek.gif ( I feel like a kid in a candy store). Just had to tell someone, can't let the operators see me havin' this much fun. hope someone else is havin' some fun today. cheers.gif

I have done the same - great piece of tooling here.

The limit is approaching a shoulder, if you have an agressive doc (around .400 radial) the chips may pinch between the tool and the shoulder of the workpiece and thus breaking the tool.

Otherwise, turn up the sfm and top out at 700 - too much more and the insert will get too hot!

We just tried this same tool with 600 sfm and .037 feed .200 doc. on 14" dia. A-36 steel.

Chips were flying and smoke filled the building.

(coolant smoke that is)

We cut our tool cycle time by more than 1/2!

Then the welders started to cry about the smoke.........

The tool is great for ruffing.

BTW......I also love my job!

Yeah been there done that. I use to do these 4150Ht stub shafts. I would keep the spindle at 105% for 25 minutes and then it would get down to 85% when it got down to the 2-15/16" size. Funny how steam you can produce when cutting on a shaft for 45 minutes and doing 44 of them at a time. It would be 20 degrees outside and we would have to open all the door to get the steam out everyone was pissed. I would just always say sorry about your bad luck. biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif
