Here's a sample line from my post(modified version of Generic Fanuc 3 axis mill.pst):
pcan1, pbld, n$, sgplane, `sgcode, sgabsinc, pccdia,
pxout, pyout, pzout, feed, strcantext, scoolant, e$
What does the ` symbol before sgcode do?
Thanx

Patrik,
bill's go it right. I too had full circles when creating polygons. It seems over here, you not only have to open the fillet function and set it to "Normal". You have to actually fillet something with the normal setting. Then you should be able to create polygons with fillets. At least, that's how it's working for me here.

I forgot another thing I really like--
that I can turn off all toolbars. I'd much rather use keystrokes and not have all those icons cluttering the top of my screen. It's cool that you can customize it to your own personal preferences.

On the topic of extending...
I know that once I have the Trim ribbon bar active, I can just type 'L' to extend by a distance. The question--is there a way to type in the distance I want without moving my mouse up to the drop down list by the arrow/ruler icon? It seems silly to use the 'L' key and then have to move the mouse up there anyway to type in the distance.
I create all my goemetry in X, but am still trying to come up with a working post(reseller is helping, but they're swamped--oh well, good excuse for me to learn a little more about posts). My drawing speed in X is at least as fast as it was in 9, if not faster. I think I finally have it configured the way I like.

Thanks for the quick reply
Yeah, the only .obj stuff I am familiar with is C++ as well. That's also what google came up with. Could the .obj's be used in CG animation? That's my best guess--he googled 3d models and ended up at one of those sites that sells models for graphics/animation purposes.
He (boss) is obviously mixed up, but that's a whole other thread.

The boss sent me some files with .obj extension. He insists they are 3D models he got off the web and I should be able to open them. I can't get to the webpage he gave me to check them out. I've never run across .obj files before and can't seem to find any documentation on them. Can anyone offer any insight?
Thanx,
scottyT
Will this work? Go into your config,
under CAD Settings, uncheck the Update Cplane and Tplane when changing Gviews button.
Not sure, but worth a try.

Rich,
my mind's not really here today--just bought a house and are moving this weekend, plus still cleaning up the old place from the tornado on Wed. morning...so I'm pretty slow today too.
The method you and John laid out is sweet. I looked in the v9 to X commands pdf and it says to use the Analyze Entity Properties dialog box to change entity levels. That's were I was going wrong.
Charles...great thread, man.
Everyone else...thanks for staying on top of it and giving quick responses.
You guys are sure making the X transition easier
Russell,
this drove me nuts as well. It's in the config, under CAD Settings. Uncheck Display arc center points, bottom left side of window.
DOH! Rich beat me to the punch.
I'm with Mike,
I turned off most of my toolbars. Most stuff has a hotkey associated with it(Learning mode helps). I put the stuff I use constantly under my rmb. All the other stuff can be accessed from the drop down menus at the top of screen with key strokes. Hint(that I just figured out Wednesday): to access the Create menu, hit Shift+Alt+C, for example. Xform menu is Shift+Alt+X. And so on.
billh,
not to highjack the thread, but yeah, I love the Cohens. Nobody ever gets it when I say; "phone's ringin', Dude." , or, "Nice marmasette, man." I think I could probably just about quote the movie line for line...in the off topic forum, of course
Johnny,
once you have the Trim ribbon bar up, just type "B" to enter Break mode, then type "P" to activate Trim to Point. It's quicker, IMHO, than clicking on the buttoms. You should be able to break entities in half all day. I did notice that I have to move my mouse wheel a little to get autocursor to work sometimes, though. :shrugs: it hasn't slowed me down that much, so far.
BTW, there's another feature I really like and use heavily--Learning Mode. Just move the pointer over a buttom in the ribbon bar and it tells you all the shortcut keys associated with that particular ribbon bar.

Probably the best feature I have found so farDitto. It's my favorite feature so far. Man, I kinda feel like a kid at Christmas time while playing with X. What new feature am I going to find next?
thanks Rich,
I didn't think it was there, but often miss the obvious.
Next question--How do I copy ALL entities on the screen to another level? Like doing Screen...Change Levels...All Entities...Copy in V9. So far, I can only get them to change levels 1 entity at a time using Analyze Entity Properties.
Mike,
you could clean up that menu a little if you remove the top, front, right, and iso views and just put the "Views" menu in there. That's how mine is.
I also have the C-planes menu, C-plane depth, and 2d/3d toggle in mine.
it's still a work in progress, but it's making me quicker all the time. Man, I love this feature!
