  1. I think you guys took him way too seriously...His latest "offense"..well, he started a thread complimenting iskander on his work, and thanking him, and then made a joke about 1 of the tools being undersized and in reality it would gouge your part. After which, he was attacked by regular forums members, which seemed to be the norm any time he typed anything no matter what it was....I don't know about you, but if I was attacked like you guys are attacking him, you'd get alot more then the "so long suckers" he gave you, from me Seems to me like the guy had a good sense of humor, took quite a beating and came back for more, always with a smile on his face, asking questions and also trying to help in the few posts he was allowed to make. Anyway, it doesn't matter to me if you banned him or not, I just think you guys have to remember, no matter how many posts you've made you dont own this forum . It is sole property of our canadian friends at inhouse. I'm really starting to find the "I'm holier than thou because my post count is bigger" attitude to be, well..simply put, gay. Its funny how the internet brings out the 7th grader in most ppl.... nothing that can be done to change that...so i'll just keep helping who I can when I can and stay out of the "feel the wrath of my 497th post you 10 post n00b" threads...have fun
  2. The problem with projecting lines onto your surface or create/curve/slice is that if you try and recreate your surface from these curves, you'll most likely have a real hard time duplicating it exactly. Yes you have geometry that exactly mapped your surface right? Well somewhat. You have some geo that fit to your original surface, but it doesnt follow the "flow" of the surface. If you just want a representation of your surface in horizontal and verticle wireframe, the create/curve/slice or projecting lines will work just fine. If your using this geo in hopes to recreate the surface then go with create/curve/flowline. Personally, in this situation I'll bring the surface(s) into rhino and extract the UV curves from the surface from there...rhino makes this very easy to do
  3. quote: In my opinion, having a post that will ignore an arc because it is not in a G17 G18 or G19 plane is dangerous ...not if your machine can't handle arcs in planes other then those 3, which I think you're saying is your problem. Not many controlers can handle arcs outside of G17, G18 & G19 so the toolpath movents along arcs that lie in different planes have to broken into line segments. The toolpath will still be as acurate to your geometry as the tolorence you have it set at in your toolpath parameters. I have the same situation with both of my machines, neither can do arcs outside of those planes. Also, I'm having a better look at your file now, and I see lots of small lines and a few small arcs in your geometry. I would suggest cleaning up the original geometry (I'm guessing this was a rasterized scan) a little before projecting, you'll get much cleaner results for toolpath. I can see some problems trying to toolpath off your existing geometry (if this is the actual geometry you plan on using).
  4. You can set your stock shape to any (2d) shape you please by using containment boundries. Just draw the shape of your stock, and select it as your tool containment boundry (you can choose inside outside or center) and the tool will never violate the space outside of it.
  5. This is definately in your post. Your projected geometry consists of only lines, not splines or arcs, and your filters are turned off so you should be getting line moves outputted by your post (I've posted your toolpaths with my post and got all line moves). What post are you using? If you tell us that someone should be able to tell you what line in your post you gotta change
  6. quote: What does your post do with an arc in Cplane 33... Mine kind of freaksMine posts them as lines because it realizes that it can only do arcs in g17,g18 and g19. Maybe this is a post issue? As soon as jay puts up your file, I'll give it a look-see Like I said before, I find that using arcs instead of splines in chaining toolpaths gives better results (espescially when using left or right comp with an offset, if you use splines in this situation your toolpaths will fail to generate more often then not)). So if your post is posting these arcs that lie in wierd planes, and your machine cant handle it, I think it's definately a switch in your post. What post are you using? Is it one from the MC9x CD or a custom post?
  7. use the cadcam's ftp link at the top of the page, that will give you access to jay's ftp where you can upload a sample. if you are worried about having to not post certain toolpaths you can ghost them. i'd like to take a look at a sample, i'm not sure by what you mean when you say the arcs wont chain properly...I like to use arcs as opposed to splines as a general rule...
  8. also, to get rid of arcs in your nci's make sure your filter is off...thats about the best you can do though, unless you have a switch in your post that will convert all arcs to linear moves. Unfortunately you can filter arcs into toolpaths with MC, but you cant filter them out, something that has been brought up in the past. So if you're not filtering these arcs in, then you'll have to try another toolpathing method/style...

oh jeez, just when i stuck up for youd dude hahaha I'm pretty sure he stated he was a teacher at a vocational school in the deleted thread... anyway lets get back on topic here... Ed.G have you got your post problem sorted out yet or do you still need some help?

im sure this'll start another flame war, but whatever... lighten up all you guys, all i see is nezperce taking a few friendly jabs at another forum member and his equipment....big friggin deal. hes started another thread about the subject and is obviously interested in helping the guy out if he can... sorry i might be wrong here...but someone please show me the part of the faq that states the ammount of posts required before you can make a friendly wise crack or 2 at another forum member...cuz the rest of you "old timers" and "big posters" do the same thing...
  11. quote: actually it doesn't matter which lines you pick first. you can change their orientation with the next command. that depends....the next command doesn't always give you the orientation you are looking for and will sometimes throw some pretty wacky orientations in the mix.
  12. Bullines said : quote: BitTorrent I finished Prince of Persia - Sands of Time not too long ago on PC, absolutely amazing game (even thought the main guy was a little fruity ) I just started CoD, very cool game, I'm liking it. I'm a HaloPC addict myself ,and compete in a few leagues. If you haven't tried this game, you must, best first person shooter I've ever played
  13. Yes its completely safe to clear all that stuff out of the temp dir. I use to save all my temp and regen files to a RAMDisc, to increase MC's performance slightly, which would get cleared as sonn as MC was shut down, or, in the case of crash where things get left behind in there, at reboot. Never had any problems with this.
  14. quote: I too have had this problem it is a 9.1 thing, It seems the only way to make it work is to change either the tool diameter or the cut tolerance. This is not a 9.1 problem, this has been happening for as long as I've use MC...just the way it goes sometimes. quote: A very small change will often do the trick. That is correct. The smallest change, such as cut tolorence or as little as a .001 change in stepdown/over most of the time will get you past the "hang" quicker. I've never resorted to changing cutter diameter as I don't find that acceptable...I wanna use the tool that I pick..not the one that MC will calculate a certain toolpath faster with. quote: I started the programming from scratch. Weird things are happening when I try to fix the original programYes, programs are more likely to come out correct when starting from the beginning rather than changing 1 that isnt working right for some reason. This goes for just about everything in MC, be it geometry/surface/solid creation or toolpathing.
  15. quote: 96 MB RAM Slap some more ram in that box dude!! It might not be the cause of this problem... but I'm positive that its causing you problems all around. You have 55mb of that ram set aside for MC (which IMO is way below minimum for what MC should be running on) which leaves only 40mb for the rest of the system. Windows can use that just idling. You gotta be to not go get another 256mb of ram (at least) for the price it costs these days. Hell, if my boss wouldnt swing it, I'd freakin buy it myself and put it in. Running a system on that much RAM IMO is like doing this : I'd go ask the big man for some more RAM and when he says "no" I'd give him one of these : and go get a stick or 2 myself...
  16. Your best bet with tranforming toolpaths is to have create new operations and geometry selected in your transform parameters.
  17. you dont get a "your system is going to shut down you have 60 seconds" warning before it reboots do you If not, I would check to see that your up to date with the latest drivers for any and all hardware in your box, since thats what the error returned was.... and yeah what he said ^^ [ 01-27-2004, 08:55 AM: Message edited by: Zero ]

  20. quote: I have win 2000 pro, under the properties for the exe fie in question, I do not have a tab for compatability, mine says security. Any ideas how I can get to compatability? Thats only available in xp. Win2k and DOS games/programs don't always get along very well. I've had trouble getting numerous DOS programs running on 2kpro, and they all run no problem on xp. 21. quote: Oh, and as for Certification, you are real close to Mastercam's Educational division To the best of my knowledge, the certs offered by mastercamedu are instructor certs and not user certs. There were some talks about a year ago about them setting up a certification program for users and as far as I can tell, it never happened. I took the 2d and 3d classes from my reseller when we first got MC 5 years ago. I've got my "diplomas" or "certification" papers from them, but they don't say much...Would be nice to have a piece of paper directly from MC saying I was a certified user. Just gimme the test, I'll pass it blindfolded. Even though it wouldn't mean much to me, it's 1 more thing to show prspective employers.
  22. quote: It seems TV programming really stinks this time of yearyou gotta be kidding me How can you go wrong with shows like My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance, Average Joe2, a million dollar 7 week long couples Fear Factor and American Idol starting up again (yeah I know its lame but the first 2-3 episodes every year are just can't be missed). It's enough to actually pull me away from my computer monitor for an hour [ 01-22-2004, 08:47 AM: Message edited by: Zero ]
  23. quote: Should I just keep typing & let word wrap handle it? yup just keep typing, it'll all work out for you when you post it. You'll notice that sometimes the posting in a thread will get really wide...this is either because there's a large pic or some code attached in that thread [ 01-21-2004, 01:45 PM: Message edited by: Zero ]
