We do alot of slot work on a haas rotary mounted on a haas vf4 and we manually write the program since it is very short.
The problem we have with a particlular job is it has 27 slots equally spaced on 360 degrees. On an older haas we programmed with a canned cycle that would divide the number of slots by 360 and rotate the correct amount.
Hopefully someone will understand this post and be of some help.
thanks

I like my job too but there is another right down the street if it doesn't work out.

jmparis.
I dont know where you live but Fort Wayne does not have the availability that other cities do. I lived in Detroit and there were jobs across the street. But cost of living is great here. I would not move back.
And as for speaking to the boss...I worked for 15 years at one place and shortly after speaking my mind, I was laid off, permantly. I was given some crap about bad jobs and attiude.
I knew better.

I would come right out and tell him it makes no sense.

jmparis...thats a gutsy move, I like my job and would not jeopardize it by talking to the boss that bluntly...but thats just me.

my #1 problem with x is the size of the drafting screen

So what your saying is "size DOES matter".
Mini mills are useless in my opinion. Very clumsy to work in and a small Z axis. With a vise on the table, and the toolchanger, there is almost no room for a tool change.
We installed SP2 mastercam update toady and everything went great. Finally can send a file without the the message that the port is being used.
I do have one question.
In posting, I click the "send to machine". But when the file comes up to edit, should the file be sent to the machine?
All the communication settings are correct, because I can send by pressing the send icon.
Any help is appreciated.

Review the minimum requirements for the system to run Mcam X and if you need to, print them out and show your supervisors or someone in purchasing to get those requirements met. If they still balk remind them of where the money is really made and if the CNC equipment isn't running they won't have jobs very long. You can't do your job using the software they've invested in if the software won't work on a poor hardware setup. Good luck. HTH

Peter. this is a very interesting concept. But I would not go the management and tell them who and what runs the shop. I know the answer to that and don't need reiterate it to the big boys.
I did that at my last place of employment and during low times, they decided to get rid of the crap disturbers.

True.
But our shop used to be the same way. It took years to get management to understand that Mastercam requires more resources than Excel.

Terry...thanks for that...It's like pulling teeth to get good hardware out of the office.
I currently working on it. We have no printer and no cd rom...and I'm not going out to buy one for my place of employment, as PBpaul stated.
In one of the updates the notes stated that it may disable your hasp and you would have to redownload the drivers. We are on the network but we can't access the internet.
Im sure someone else has worked in a shop that does not purcahse everything you needed for the job.
The previous shop I woked in would buy anything I needed, sight unseen. As my luck had it they laid me off permanetly when finances got low. They kept the cheap help.
Oh well, all things considered, I have a great job now.
