That is what I am trying to figure out. I think I can tilt my spindle to produce a flat surface, just wondering if there is a formula to calculate the angle
Im away from the office so cant post a screenshot of the part we are machining, but basically the part looks like a round top hat with a top diameter of 8" with a 10 deg tapered flange at the bottom of the diameter, so the angle from the wall to the flange is 100 deg. There are also 3 o-rings on the od. Our machine has a max tilt angle of 90 degrees, so I cant use a swarf toolpath with the side of the tool, instead I will have to use the end of the tool, and probably a 5 axis curve. My problem is getting the endmill to cut the surface flat, with the end of the endmill being angled to the center. I could just surface the face, but was wondering if there may be a formula to set the lead angle to compensate for the end angle of the endmill? I was also thinking a endmill with a flat end, like a c'bore tool would probably work, are these available? The other issue I have is with the o-rings, I would like to tilt my head to 90 degrees and cut them with a endmill, they have a 16 surface finish, and no corner fillets, I could use a small endmill with a stepover, but think a endmill the same width of the slot would give a better finish, if I could get it to cut flat in the center. any suggestions would be appreciated.
You could just use a contour toolpath with rotary axis control set to axis substitution to rotate about x axis, and substitute y axis. If you do this be sure to have a check in the unroll box. you can also project the edge curve to a flat boundary, in this case make sure the unroll is not checked. if the wall on the edge of the ear has to be parallel with the hole, create geometry for your edge curve to leave extra material on the ears, and do a finish pass by indexing the a axis and using a contour without rotary control for the finish pass on the ears. if you still have problems send me the file.

Im sure it is right in front of me, but I am having trouble finding it in the new multi axis page. Am I just not looking in the correct spot, or has this been removed in X5?
The latest release on the website is for X4 MU3, just wondering if anyone tried running this version on x5? and does anything need to be updated for it to work on X5?
I haven't used X+ since X1, I used it to customize the operations manager, and for setup sheets, but now that you can customize the operation manager in mastercam, do you just use it for setup sheet, or are there more options available now?
I can run x5 on my server, but nhaspx util doesn't see my hasp. Do I have to install a new server or somthing? Or is anyone else having problems with nethasp?
