  1. Have him check out the smurfcam forum then have him check out this great forum. It should not require any more effort than that.
  2. Use a good air blast to evacuate the chips. Recutting chips is pretty abusive to the cutters.
  3. Sound like you are doing parts that will be die cast aluminium in production. Lots of times when there are small radiuses in the bottom of pockets I look at using bull mill cutters. Not sure if this would help, but thought I would mention it.
  4. Maybe a cogsdill (spelling) roller burnishing tool?
  5. I think the trochoidal cutting is employed cutting deep depths and light cutting on the side of the endmill. I think the AJX is engineered to take light depth cuts and larger stepover. Mabe some can offer some more examples or better explanation.
  6. Hide the jaws after you use them.
  7. Might try using depth control limits.
  8. Sounds like it should be Badway instead of Goodway,
  9. I have been curious about running a seat of MC from home myself. I would be the one to forget to bring back the sim the next day and have to go back and forth from work two times before ever really getting to work. Can PC anywhere do this? Would their be any latency probems if we had good connections?(comcast, cable etc.)
  10. In one of the older versions of Mastercam we were able to do cross sectional views with I think clipping plane in studio. Is their a current way to do cross sectional views with out altering geometry? If so please explain. Thanks in advance.
  11. Choke up on the cutter as much as possible.
  12. If you can use flat cutters with a corner rad.(bullnose) to cut down to a .03 rad wherever possible. Then maybe go back with a .062 ball using restmill and then a leftover. Not sure if this will work without seeing the part but this how I approach a lot of our parts. It works good for parts that have some 2d with fillets and some 3d areas.
  13. Make one pass leaving amount "x". Than make another pass leaving the desired amount for a finish pass at 0. You might be able to cut your time down during the roughing by taking a larger stepover and loosening up the tolerances a little. What type of material are you cutting?
  14. We arfe looking for a cnc lathe source able to turn 28.5 dia x 1.25 thick. It is a rotor for large earth moving equipment. We are quoting 8 pieces. It is out of 1045 burned, annealed, and ground to the 1.250 dimension. It has grooving in the rotor area that would need to be milled in as well. Quite likely it would run more efficiently on a cnc VTL with mill capability. Looking for a reliable source to quote it. I will be googling in the mean time. Thanks in advance.
  15. The grind on the drill point will probably significantly influence the amount of pressure in the Z axis.
  16. Thanks for your replies. I have fowarded the info to our purchasing dept.
  17. Anyone have a good source for plastic plugs that could be pushed into threaded holes to prevent the powder coat paint from getting to threads? I'm thinking of something similar to when purchasing a pneumatic valve the holes are plugged to keep contaniments out. I will be searching on the web in the meantime. Thanks in advance.
  18. I googled inconel tappng feed and speed and roll tapping was recomended, Conventional tapping is not recommended. You might try threadmilling. Might check out OSG's website for recomandations.
  19. Where is a good place to buy premachined blanks out of A-2 or 1018. We usually buy our stock from Alro Steel and they offer KPM Super Square. Thier catalog says it comes .015 to .035 over size. We would like to purchase it on size with a minus 0.0 to +.005 tolerance. Example 2.5 x 3.0 x 28.0 long. We dont nedd the 28.0. We are looking at the 2.5 x 3.0. We can square them up here but we are busy for the next few weeks and thought it might allow us to concentrate on making the tools insted of squaring steel. Just looking for a good source.
  20. The size of the hole before roll or form taps is critical. You may want to do a test piece to get the hole size dialed in. I have seen if the hole is to big before form tapping it will look like a double lead thread. It also is sometimes easier to crossthread a screw in a formed thread than a cut one.
  21. What does the pbld stand for or mean?
  22. It will shorten too life generaly due thermal cracking of the insert on the cutting edge. Might not be able to see it with the naked eye. Air blast is the way to go.
