  1. Thirsty Thursday on golf night.
  2. What about Work NC or some system called Lemoine or something like that?
  3. I think its just a liability issue so the coolant company doesn't have their chemical at its full strength potential to wreak havoc inside a shop and then be sued by someone who broke out in a rash.
  4. I did search but didn't see anything mentioned about a 6 axis laser. We are considering purhasing a Mazak 6 axis. If we do purchase a laser I've been told it will be a Mazak as we currently have 3 of them, but only 2 axis for cutting flat sheet. I'm not sure of the axis configuration, but the head has 5 and a horizontal rotary is the 6th. Its for cutting pipe etc. Mazak has a software package available but we might go with MC if we can ceate or get a good post. We do prototype sheetmetal stampings. I calling our MC rep but I was looking for feedback if anyone has any. For the price of their softrware package I think we could get a post. But I've heard posting to "Mazatrol" machines can be difficult at times. We would be cutting irregular shapes obvisously. The thing about lasers is they work the best if the torch tip is kept perpendicular to the sheet metal or on an angle where the sheet metal thickness stays constant while being cut. Sorry for such a long post.
  5. We have 3 lasers here and that is one of my pet peeves. I HATE working on laser cut holes. The heat affected zone i've been told gets to around 70 rockwell c. I think its only a few thou deep but it dulls tools fast. The best luck I've had is cutting 1mm. deep on any laser cut holes. I usually ask if we can drill and tap on the machine then I know everything is predictable.
  6. What model and year is the Haas? Some of the older vintage machines used compressed air as a z axis assist, while the newer models have nitrogen harged tanks.
  7. No I haven't ever seen him in person, but i thinkI've seen a vehicle of his. A big zebra painted bronco.
  8. Would it be possible a double nut configuration would work or wouldn't it be strong enough?
  9. Go to www.mmsonline.com they have a high speed machining zone that is very infomative. Sandvik has a couple of application guides as well. I think pretty much the mainstream tooling companies all have them.

I clicked the link I had provided and it doesn't work. But if you type it in it does. Could someone explain what I may have done wrong with my link posting.

Go check out ph HORN company at www.hornusa.com. They have tools that can broach the part while its still in the lathe. I don't know much about their tools but saw their ad in Modern Machine Shop. Maybe you plan on doing this on a c axis lathe with a end mill, in which case probably follow everyone elses advice. But if it would be a second operation maybe this could save some time.
  12. I went to the OSG website and found no feed or speed recomendations. Usually manufacturers have some litature available. I look up a similar tool, with the same coating in a competators catalog or website. It won't be exact but a good start. I haven't used OSG other than for taps but they are good cutters from what I've heard of them here on the forum.
  13. If possible put it up onthe ftp and I' sure someone will be able to help.
  14. How does the tool fail? Is it getting dull or chipping?
  15. Thanks, I'll play with it in a couple of days. I'm not that familiar with editing posts, but I do know to save an original.
  16. The drilling cycles are what i was wondering about. The post I use doesn't output the deep hole values. Did you modify mpmaster or the Haas post?
  17. Chris are you looking for a tool preload on the sidemount tool changer? If thats the case there is a spot in the post where we can turn it on and off. A "0" or a "1" I think. Rekd do you you have it set up for the "K" value etc.?
  18. I'm looking for a mild translation on the "GTBFKM." I just couldn't figure it out.
  19. 3.0 will be fine for a pro athlete. But ask him if he wants his accountant and agent to have a 3.0 or a 4.0
  20. One from my 7th grade woodshop teacher: Everyone wants to go to heaven, but no one wants to die.
  21. That sounds like it is already a pretty accurate machine. What is the typical tolerance that has to be machined on this machine? Just curious what kind of machine is it?
  22. I have downloaded the file. I would try making separate surfaces of the profile. Kinda have the form or profile driven along the length. But don't have it like a swept with the whole cross section, have the cross section broken down into arc, line, arc, spline etc. Try to use ruled surfaces. I don't have time right at the moment but I'll try to put something on the ftp before I take off today. The problem that we will encounter is going to be on transition from the sidewall surface to the fillet surface. Hope I've been helpful.

I'm not sure, but maybe this could be run on a swiss type lathe. I think that this type of lathe has the capability of pushing the stock thru the collet, or something like that. Another idea would be to see if it could be centerless ground. I'm not sure how many pieces are going to need to be made, but just a couple of ideas to kick around. I also not sure if either of these prcesses would work but maybe someone else here might know for sure.
  24. I'm no computer expert but I clean my temp folder all the time. I've never lost any data as far as I know. I'm curious what other people think on this subject. Of course I have mc closed when I delete the item in the temp folder. Does anyone know the theory behind the temp folder? Perhaps someone from cnc software could enlighten me.
  25. Just a thought but maybe the coordinate system in the macines can be changed with a parameter in the control. Has anyone looked to see if this might be possible? Probably a question to ask Mori themselves.
