  1. ramping on and will help if its not already being done. Maybe an extra pass cutting "0"
  2. We are looking for a cheap but effective oil skimmer. I'm looking for recomndations on what is the best bang for the buck. Zebra, Little tramp, Abaniki, brand and style belt style or wheel?
  3. We have what sounds like a similar noise on our VF-4. I've kind of always thought it was the way covers. I wonder if you removed the way covers on the x axis if it would make a differance.
  4. In the past with different toolpaths I have made the gap setting large and set my linking to follow surface. The gap setting by default is 300% of stepdown. I will often set it by distance instead of a percentage of stepdown. If its made larger it tend to keep the tool down and have less retracts.
  5. Thanks. Let me know if you find out anything. We had a job that was near the travel limits and it was faulting out on Y over travel. The work around was to turn off the plunge outside and do a ramp or helix. But going by where the edge of the block was in the Y travel, the diameter of cutter etc. there would have been enough trave if the lead in was a bit smaller.
  6. I should have explained better. When using surface rough pocket, how does Mastercam determine the distance off the containment boundry to plunge when using plunge outside contanment boundry?
  7. I know I can use an entry point. Is there any way to control how long the lead in is when plunging outside contanment boundry? Maybe we could change a factor or multiplier number somewhere.
  8. Maybe send it to a gun drill house. I googled inconel gun drill. There are several places that I think would be able to do it. Here's on e that I saw http://www.deephole.com/Expertise.html
  9. I've always thought iabout making a globe like that but didn't know where to get the 3d cad. That is way cool.
  10. They are for an Eaton Leonard tube bender.
  11. Thanks to everyone for all of your input.
  12. Ron, I looked for it on the FTP under the MCX2 but with no luck. Thanks for all your help. I'm pretty good with 3d surfacing programs but have no experience with multi axis stuff. I've always wanted to be able to do it though. Is this a good project to try and learn it on? Just curious if I'm headed in the right direction.
  13. We are using Mill X2 MR2 SP1 Mill level 3. We are grandfathered in on 5 axis module as we have kept up on our maintainance.
  14. We have the stock haas posts that come with Mastercam. Will one of these and a 4th axis allow us to put the groove in hte part I have put up on the FTP. It is called 1.5 bending die. I would like to do this with surfacing programs. We have a Haas VF-6 vertical spindle machine with a 4th axis. I would to get the 4th axis turning and have 1"ball rough and finish the grove. It definitly is really a lathe job but we don't have a cnc lathe large enough and we have a little time to learn so I was hoping to teach myself with some help how to do this. I'm open to any and all comments.
  15. Here is link. http://www.roymech.co.uk/Useful_Tables/Drive/Worm_Gears.html
  16. What kind of sealant do people use on their machine joints. Silicone or a paticular product good at resisting breakdown from coolants so it stays sealed. Maybe a 3M or DOW product. Just looking for some good suggestions if anyone has any.
  17. Thanks guys for the quick replies. I will pass along the info so he gets started in the right direction.
  18. I have a friend doing some work on a prototrak bridgeport. He is cutting a hex with a .125 2 flute carbide endmill. I'm not sure what grade of copper, but he said it was pretty soft? In the machinerys handbook it recommended 180 to 200 for drilling and reaming with carbide. that would put him at 5500 to 6000 rpms but he only has about 3500 or 4000. Any other suggestions on machining it?

  20. I think it is HSLA grade 70. High strength low alloy 70,000 lbs tensile strength.
  21. I was able to do it in 9. I was wanting to know if I can do it in X2 and how if its available.
  22. Yes. I don't have 9 loaded anymore though.
  23. No, I am trying to view with a clipping plane. Not sure if its still possible. We used to be able to have sufaces shaded or not and be able to turn on a clipping plane to view a cross section of parts. It was adjustable in Z depth. From a viewing stand point it did look like we trimmed all entities to a plane. But it was just a view, not really trimmed.
  24. How do I get to the clipping plane or is it still available?
