  1. I did that already. This is not my first rodeo. I ended up spedning all day going through installs and stripping everything. The problem seemed to be that in my registry there was a file left over in a an unusual place. So when deleting Mastercam, make sure you find any mention of CNC Software IncMastercam in the registry.
  2. Great advice once again. This is just another reason why I love ths forum so much. Now if only one of you worked in a shop locally and I could get hired there to work with you and learn!
  3. Also, when I start Mastercam it says "The user specified start up config file was not available. Setting mastercam to the default config"
  4. For some reason X3 is all jacked up. My computer is tied to a network but I am using a stand alone HASP. I have admin rights. I lost all my toolbars, my posts went corrupt and I have no config file so I tried to go in to config and save my settings but it tells me "the parameter is incorrect" And when I go to STart Up Settings > Config...there is nothing there and nothing form me to pick in the drop down. So I decided to log in as an admin and strip Mastercam from the system. I do this, reinstall, add the update and pull up mastercam...no issues. The minute I log off as an admin and back as my regular user ID, I pull up X3 and the same issue still exists. I can't stay logged in as an admin because they hate that...what the heck is wrong with this??
  5. How can you learn 5 axis if you do not have a machine to play with? I really want to become a better programmer as my skills now are rough but I have been told that this is where my talent seems to be.
  6. HAHA..Yeah, the more I think about it the more I feel this job is not for me. I have been up front with them but my words seem to go in one ear and out the other. Plus I have heard some negative things that seem to be ongoing issues. Also, they were supposed to call me yesterday and I heard nothing. Time to keep looking...
  7. Oh yeah, the hole is a through hole and the part has to be done on the mill.
  8. All great ideas thus far. Thanks to everyone that has posted here. I am still waiting to hear from them as today was supposed to be the day they called me with an offer. If anyone hears of anything in or around Dayton,Ohio please let me know.
  9. This is just for me to get an idea how everyone else programs something simple. If there is a hole that is a 12mm hole with a H7 called out in a piece of AL6061 that is 26mm thick, how would you program it in order to be the most effiecient?
  10. I am more experienced as a mill programmer but not in a regular shop. Working where I do I am not worried about profit or anything else so my processes would be totally different than someone in a "real world shop" I guess only time will tell. I am not sure this is the right job for me. I would love to find a job working with another programmer so I can learn and share ideas with this person. Anyone that might be aware of an opportunity like this please let me know.
  11. I have seen a few things they do and I feel I can do some of what they showed me. I think developing the proper speeds and feeds will be big for me and programming the lathes and anything 4th axis. They have a 4th axis on one mill and I have never programmed anything more than 3. I really want to learn to go 4 and 5 in the future. I know they do some 3d work and I am a little rough at that but I can do it. I started working part time in a mold shop 6 months ago and that is all 3d work but I am once again teaching myself so I am certain I am not doing it the most efficient way. I guess I will take this test today and see what they think. They want to pay me "around $20/hr" Currently I make 18 at one job and 26 at the other. I can't work for anything less than 22 so I am going to make that known to them today. Leaving the government and all the sick leave and vacation leave that we earn is a big deal so if they are gonna pay me less then I need what I am asking for and not what they want to pay me. I will keep everyone updated. Am I being to unreasonable? BTWS..every pay period for the government I get 6 hours of annual leave and 4 hours of sick time...so you can see why it is tough to leave.
  12. I have told them over and over that I am pretty much self taught and that I may not know exactly what they want but I do know mastercam and in the right atmosphere I can become a great programmer...this I know. And yeah, I am very nervous. I have no intention of going in half cocked. I want to be able to devlop good working relationships with the guys on the floor so I can learn from them.
  13. I have been looking for a new job. I have decided that my strength lies in programming. I am pretty much self taught other than a 3 day class at our shop when we first got MC. Since then I have been teaching myself and we do not use MC everyday being we are a prototype shop and a lot of the things we make can be done easily on a prototrak. Having said this I was offered a job as a programmer. I was hoping to get into a shop where I could learn from experts and move up in the company. However, they want me to work with their current programmer for a couple weeks and then I will be on my own and he will be leaving. I stressed to them I was mostly self taught and that I am a mill guy with only one basic program under my belt on a lathe using MC. At this new job they need me to program for Haas machines and Cinci lathes. I feel I might be getting in over my head a bit but to turn down a job in this economy seems crazy. Any suggestions? I am leaving my government job because I want to move up in a company and have the opportunity to grow in the industry. AT my current job I will never get any better than I am currently. I will be heading out to a test they are giving me today. They want me to program a part for them. I would hate to take the job, if they offer it to me, and then be over my head and get fired and be jobless. Like I said, not the situation I really wanted as I wanted to learn from some of the best but it is a programming job....with my own office.
  14. Yes JP I did follow the instructions. Like I said, I have done this before. I am updating the posts from X2 to X3 MU1. I went through everything, saw the slide bar at the bottom get all the way to the end and then BOOM! Mastercam encountered an error and shut down.
  15. I have a box that I am trying to update and I know how to do it since I have already done my own box...yet when doing this one, everytime I try and update using the import..MC crashes on me.
  16. Any further updates on the Mastercam/Omax posts?
  17. I too would love to be able to slow down in corners for just specific ops.
  18. Yup...that was it..Thanks..never ran into that before
  19. I have a person that sent me a file..it is a .dwg file. I open it in X3 and I see nothing..so I went to the leveks manager and I all the levekls are turned on and it shows that there are many entities..yet nothing on the screen....what gives?
  20. Ok..I tried to do this and it worked just fine for me.
  21. I have not had an issue with this but let me try again and see if I can recreate your error.
  22. I guerss it depends on why the customer is wanting to use 410 in the first place. Some of the properties vary and 416 may not work for them.
  23. Thanks Kev...if anyone has further info please let me know. Also, Todd..I know you are out there..if you know of anything please keep me in mind.
