  1. isnt that a pressure thread? check with sandvik they may have an inserted cutter for it. you may have to make more than one pass at a diffrent start point to get the land size correct
  2. Hey mike we can take you and john boy up to global and we can show them the bene's rigidity, balance, and clearance are three good points
  3. no the laser does to, but the plus or minus limits and on/off is a little easier to get to. everything is tied together from the presetter in the tool room to the tool breakage detesction. we do not use the laser to measure tools it is done with the presetter and sent to the controller. another note is the tool load monitor will catch the tool usually before breakage unless it is a tap ot very small tool. it is the pro 5 cell controller.
  4. I think it came standard I know we paid extra for the laser. it is nice to because the behind the door one is interactive with the cell controler to.
  5. It is quicker outside the magazine I do not know why for sure, I have tried it both ways with the laser and the tool breakage behind the door. I do use the laser for form tools but that is only because the behind magazine can't verify shapes
  6. Okumas are very easy to write macros for you will have to make a sub then decide if you want to call it in the program out of the program as a libray file. I do not know your situation but if if is something you use all the time you may want to use it as a .LIB file
  7. James it does the exact same thing it joes does it outside the work zone and it is for lights out operation, the only way to be better would be tool load monitor which is very effective if you set up your tables correctly. remember anyhting you can do outside the work zone reduces non value added time.
  8. James you are right about the tool breakage and length offset, the reason is that makino has a tool breakage checker behind the tool change door and the tool in the ready pot is checked for beakage before and after tool change you could use the tool length setter inside the machine but you loose machine time.
  9. Jim so many big shops in our area have shifted to makino from horizontals through Mags the mags are amazing to
  10. You realy only need the tool breakage behind the door you should / will be presetting anyway. the one behind the door does have tool limitations though.
  11. I would look at toyoda for sure the matsuura I have not been to happy with long lead on cell and they were breaking down alot Universal has a matsuura cell and you could talk to them and see what they think. The only problem is selway
  12. Hey Jack when colin gets in he will be able to help you out he will be here soon
  13. Jim come on over to the main land and head up to Global to check out their Makino cell I can get you a tour then you won't be asking, that is a great cell! Accra has a new Makino cell to with 5 axis
  14. Kennedy do you have IGF on that lathe I am asuming this is an LU IGF for 2 turret no sub or live tools is way faster anyway
  15. Ployd I missed finding you to! Jim sorry you missed it
  16. in all fbm it is quick, but many times it is not the best toolpath, all packages have their advantages and disadvantages, overall it is how well you work with the package you have, I went to an advanced multiaxis class yesterday and I was impressed with the things I didn't know mcam could do. It was easier to develope a plunge cut pass in the advanced multi toolpath and limit it to 3 axis I never thought of using it that way. I think it also depends on the type of machine(s) you are programming for and what you need from it.
  17. Backup is great! those of you using autosave and getting away with it I am glad, but it has caused more crashes then any one item I can think of right now.
  18. you need to have the machine looked at for sure Ball bar and pitch error comp if you are at 200sfm (1018 rpm) and .002 chip load x 4fl. (8ipm) this should be plenty slow even if your loopback is slow. machine needs to be fixed. look at daewoo next time for a replcament in that price range
  19. I can not help in this instance but I wanted to say go WSU
