  1. cadcam, were trying to get the v9 approval,we just bought more new equipment so our backlog is being evaluated, for the software upgrades, with v9 were buying moldplus. Is the pro-e converter included or is it an add on still? Thanks.
  2. We use Pro-e for all of our mold desgining, and electrode extracting, then import the iges files.Although this week I started to use Moldplus (demo c-hook)to do some trode extracting, and so far i like it,it works well with the surfaces, never tried solids, though i would like it im sure,i also would like to try out solidworks, just to get something else under my belt.Ive used a couple differant cam softwares,MC is the best for me.I would support any add ons for it.
  3. Hey hows everyone today?I recently purchused mastercam v8 mill from scholars,by Lin& Shiue, also Understanding Mastercam,by Prentice hall. The understanding mcam is about worthless to me It cost 29.00,the scholars book is descent,It was 70.00,but I was looking for something more advanced. Both i found by seaching the web for mastercam books.
  4. Since Ive never had any expierience at this, what is the purpose of filtering, and when do you do it.(where to set it)? Thanks for any input to help me out.
  5. Have you verified your cut,I find best not to doubt the post,so if you verify your cuts and they look o.k. then you i believe that you should be good to go.Unless you have something wrong with your post.I could be wrong about this, considering I have never done filtering.
  6. Greg, Is this the card, you use,and do have problems with it.mines been on back order for a couble weeks 64 meg,but for NT.Is it o.k. or should i stick with the 32 i am runnin. It wasnt quite 950.00,we got it for 700.Thanks for any info.
  7. cadcam got me exited with this one, just got the fax back with the quote, looks good for all 3 seats of our mill3,v.8,soon to be v9.Hows the pro-e translator working.
  8. I think it depends on your application of the machine,As far as heavier cutting is concerned i would take the fadal, lighter cutting, but all around a quicker machine is haas,I prefer the fadal,I ran both types of machines in the same shop.I feel the fadal is a more rigid machine. But this is just my opinion,The battle between these 2 machines will never end.
  9. To those of you who are in dying positions, here at my shop weve been looking for a programmer for over a year.We are a tool and die shop, most jobs are pretty complex 3d shapes,we need a programmer with electrode and high speed machining equipment.we only use makino's.We are asking for 4 years minimum exp.and were in pa.We have an ad on the mastercam website, feel free to send a resume.I am our main programmer, but i also set-up and run the mills as well as e.d.m.,and i am buried.I work 62-72 hrs. per week.
  10. Ill be waiting impatiently for v9.Whats the differance between 8.1 & 8.1.1,i am using 8.1 thanks
  11. Always looking to improve,I can honestly say I dont know it all,but if I think I can I can help I try,and as it usually works out,I learn something new, every topic I read I learn more,Thanks to all.
  12. Thank-you for the advice I realloacted my ram its a little under 300 now.I never tried it that much lower, but yes multiple openings were very slow, someone that used to program here told me that should be set like that. Thanks for clearing that up for me.I think because the older computers were slower, and we have some huge files. thanks again.
  13. I hope I can help with this,I believe what you may need to do is under screen-configure-allocations,you may need to make your allocation # larger, but youll have to make the database # smaller, try to keep your ram allocation # as close to your computers ram as possible ex.my ram allocation is 766.4,i have 768 megs in my computer,my database is set at 300000,and my toolpath is at 475000.you may have to play these numbers back and forth for a little while to get them where you need them.I hope I am at least partially correct,I could use some insight as to exactly what these #'s do,any information is helpful-thanks.
  14. This is one of those more than one way to skin a cat things.I know of three ways to do this,2 have been brought up.1)cut 2d contours or pockets,2)my favorite,Bull mills,3)From back in my unsmartcam days,Lie tell it you diameter of your cutter is undersize the total amount of negative stock you are using Ex.if you want .003 per side with a .25 e.m. you tell it your tool diameter is.244.,the only problem is if it is in a program with 3d you have to run them seperate or change your tool offset in the machine, because the z needs to be offset .003 deeper(or 1/2 your total overburn.)Hope 1 of these can help.
  15. Hi,my name is Corey,Programming about 6 years with differant systems,3 years now with my favorite,v8.1.I program complex 3D trodes for die cast, and plastic molds using 2 makino snc64's And now high speed machining steel in a makino v55.This is my first week in here,I have already learned alot, thanks.I also shared some input,I am pretty confident in what I do,But still not a pro. I also oversee our EDM dept,2 makino ednc65's. thanks for being kind alot of forums i see are people giving others bad advice I believe intentionally.thanks again. Erie,Pa.
  16. I unfortunatly am always dealing with revisions in electrode manufacturing.Take for instance I machine a trode then the next day they change the part, using pro-e i re-extract the trode create the iges, then in mastercam i will delete the old model leaving any 2d boundrys or stop surfaces i created on the screen by putting them on a differant level then import the new file making sure it is in the correct location, then i regenerate the tool operations reselecting the new surfaces. It is really easy.I hope this is what you might be refering to.
  17. I am inquiring about moldplus electrode,if anyone is using it ,how well it works and do I need solids to run it.I am using v8.1 any input about this would be greatly appreciated.
