  1. My biggest pet peeve is stupidity! In a very close 2nd is people who drive 3 mph in the fast lane and will not get over! AAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!! I need to break something!
  2. Check out PH HORN. They have tons of small carbide tooling.
  3. How thick is the part? have you tried "contour/ramp"? I haven't used the plunge rough yet,it seems like it would take too long.
  4. Prototypes for Harley Davidson. Some small knobs and quick disconnects for the saddlebags. GO RED WINGS!
  5. We have an Okuma MX-55VB and we are tapping a 5/16-18 tap, standard Morse 2 flute spiral point at 2100 RPM in 1018 steel. Only because the machine won't allow me to go faster.
  6. Are you talking about using the wcs feature and creating toolpaths for different parts that are drawn in the same .mc9 file?
  7. We have a Mori Seiki SL-35 that we bought in 1989 and that puppy is a workhorse! We've crashed it sooo many times and it's still one of the best lathes that we have. Also we have an Okuma Cadet that we got in 1994,I love the Okuma controls, they're very user friendly and ultra-versatile. If I had my way,I'd have an Okuma control on every machine out on the floor.
  8. Try this, In the XY stock to leave enter .005 or whatever In the Z stock to leave enter .005 Create another operation and enter zero's for the values in both boxes.
  9. Set the depth cuts box to the amount of cut you want to take at a time.

    C-hook

I was looking at the C-hook page and wondering if anyone can tell me how the STOCKVW c-hook works. The description is "Creates 3D model from stock boundaries" But HOW do I get it to work. I keep getting an eerror message when I try to use it.
  11. quote: I'd BUY a USED Mori before you could GIVE me a NEW Cincinati. AMEN!
  12. We have a repeat job from a customer where we have to cut the teeth off of a gear and turn the body into a 2" square from a 4-1/2 body. The material is 62 r/c and we use Niagara 1" spiral flute endmills Tialn coating. That endmill will do 20 pcs and not even look the slightest bit used. Side milling 1/8" d.o.c.,2" length of cut. 385 rpm about 4-5 ipm.
  13. Heavy, Whenever I do any hard milling or hard turning with carbide,I always run dry. As for the speeds and feeds if you are using the 4040 grade or even the 4030 grade oyu should be fine. I wouldn't run it any faster on the sfpm though. as for the rough depth of cut,try a little heavier cut and see what happens. HTH.
  14. I called my dealer yesterday, He told me that they are starting to mass produce them and I should see my copy in about 3 weeks or so.

    Avatars

Where do you guys get those kick a$$ avatars? Do you design them yourselves? If so how? I want to get one,but I don't want to rip off anyone else or have the same. I especially like Toolfab's American flag!!!
  16. For every customer we have,I have a folder for. In that folder I have 3 sub folders: mc9 files, lathe programs, mill programs. Under the lathe and mill programs I have sub folders like: Okuma,Fanuc and Yasnac. Seems like alot to keep track of,but it really helps keeps things organized. When an operator makes a change to one of my programs,or writes their own,I will download and save it,unless it's a simple program like machining soft jaws or a simple bolt circle. I try to write all of the mill programs that I can since the conversational controls on the lathes can handle most of the programs there. I never use .nci since I have no clue what use they serve. Just the .Mc9 and .NC files are saved in their respective folders.
  17. Cast iron is very easy to work with. It's messy, although you said you do work on graphite,so you know what to expect. The only thing to watch for is taking a heavy cut and coming to an edge. It likes to break apart because it's brittle. Just buy some good cast iron grade carbide/ceramic tooling and go to town!
  18. Xform,translate,(select entities),between points.
  19. Sounds like you have the settings different. Stay with it Hugh,I had the same problems(and still do) when our company bought Lathe9.0 and I had to teach myself.
  20. quote: If we were to show the world EXACTLY what we know, this would compromise our intelligence gathering capabilities The whole world knows only what our government and military wants us to know. Believe me,they know a whole lot more than they just "release" into the public media.
  21. Filled 'er up yesterday here in Mich. 25 gallon tank = $45 buckeroos!
