I have been running wires for over 20 years. The one thing I would say to some one thinking about a new wire is what do you want to do wire it. every machine has it advantages and disadvantages. I have run Mits and Charmilles. Hate the Charmilles and there serves. Love the Mits and there services. You are not going to beat the Mits for accuracy. Some time ago I was running a 14 year old Mits. and holding +/-0.00005 on hole size for a repeat job. I would stay away from cheap brands. Wire machine are not mills it is completely different thinking. One important thing about wires is the technology they have for cutting. You want a machine that has technology for cutting all kinds and heights of material. uses a steel technology for carbide or aluminum will not work to good. Keep that in mind when you are looking for a wire
  2. Edit/Simplify keeps crashing X5. If I select more than one spline or one that is a little complicated it crashes X5. but if I save that same file as an X4 version then open it in X4 I can Edit/Simplify the whole file at once with out a trouble. Anybody have any idea what could be causing that?
  3. Charmilles have an E4 that you can use when cutting like you are just replace the E2 with an E4. In some cases you might want to increase the wire speed a couple of notches. there factory setting have it running pretty slow and that can cause some problems
  4. I have sent a file that it keeps doing it on to QC. I hope they get it fixed it is really annoying. I have a lot of old files that I use from repeat customers. The best work around I cam up with is once I open a file and see that the color is wrong, I just open configuration and then reopen the .config file I use for startup. Don't know why opening an old file messes this up?
  5. With the new X4 when I open some old files. It starts out with the entity color same as background. Then it pops up with an error code "Action not allowed" And it says the system entity color matches the current background color. restoring previous system entity color. You should select a different color, or change the background color." But I can't get pop up error message to close, no mater what I try. The only way I can get around it is do a control alt delete and close X4 in task manager. Any one else having this problem?
  6. I have run Charmilles for 4 years and Mitsubishi for 12 Years. Hate the Charmilles, hate their machine and support. Love the Mits, both there machines and support. I would say buy a Mitsubishi.
  7. Check your filter page If your filter is a lot larger than your your linearization tolerance, some times that causes trouble
  8. I got it figured out. Max lead out was checked accidentally.
  9. After installing X3 I discovered that at the end of the wire path it no longer moves the U V back to 0,0. X2 would always move it back to 0,0 at the end of the wire path. I thought there was a setting somewhere to force the U V back to 0,0 but I can't find it. Has anyone else come across this?
  10. I would definitely suggest some training from Mastercam on the Wire end running wires is a completely different than mills. Also you will have to make some minor changes on the standard post that they give you to make it work on Charmilles. Just eliminate the D value in the post. Charmilles tec files will put their own offset in the tec file. I have been using Mastercam with Charmilles 240cc and 440 for 4 years. and it works OK
  11. Is there any way to get a copy of the X3 beta. I have a new job coming in. And a change that people have told me about in X3 would save me lots of programing time. So it would be nice if I could get a hold of it.
  12. Rick There is no waiting for the tool on this machines. The machine has a pot that will hold the nexet tool in line so when it comes to a tool change a arm grabs the old tool on one end and has the new tool on the other end. So there is no waiting. Maestro This machine required a little differnt think whan a VMC. We have 2 smaller ones. You will like the Makinos those things are rock solid and fast. Scary fast if you are not used to it. As far as the presetter goes. Depending on how many different parts you run if you can set the tools up and keep them in the machine then a prester will not be that big of deal. But if you are setting up a lot of tooling. Having a presetter that can load the infromation right into the machine is a big time saver.
  13. You say you are subbing the main program (The part contour). Could you just change the A in the post to A=H50 for example then in the main program have H50= what ever taper you want. So H=0 would not cut taper and H=-5.0 would put a 5 degree taper in the part.
  14. LOL I was just thinking, Agie is Charmilles know that is why you haven't heard from them. Charmilles service is bad
  15. Yes same here I like to sync by entity to. The branch can get you in trouble if you are not careful. Some times the machine will try to reapply cutter comp. in the middle on the line right where your branch is that is what might be causing your "joggle."
  16. I keep getting this message when I try to use Wire Path Point. I am not cutting taper, and the taper is set to 30 degrees in the .wmd file, which is maximum for the machine. I do not get it any other time, just when I try to use point. Am I still missing a setting some where or is it a minor bug with the new patch. And like you said it still post just fine. It is just annoying as heck because every time I open that file that error pops up for each Wire Path Point I have in the file.
  17. Contact your reseller for the post. As far as the 4 files goes the .tec and the .wir files, the post will not generate them you need to do that at the machine. What the post will generate is an .iso file that has the tool path. As far as the .iso file that Charmilles calls the command file. I just use Wire Manual Entry and put all those commands in front of the tool path so when I post, it generates one .iso file that has the command file and the tool path file combined so all I need is three files.
  18. Also how are your parameters set in the 4 axis? And what kind of machine are you trying to cut it on?
  19. I just heard back from Mastercam. It is a bug with smart dimensioning. So if you do any dimensioning you might want to save before hand.
  20. This is the second time this has happened to me since I upgraded to MR2. I am working along everything fine, go back to levels to change to a different level. And it show 0 entities on all levels, except for maybe the last two or three things I did. You still see them on the screen but once you do a redraw they are all gone. Luckily both times I saved recently so it was no big deal. But the potential to loose a lot of information is there and that could be a problem. Any one else run across this?
  21. That sounds great and is just what I want Thanks. One more thing, who do I send suggestion to for minor changes in some of the wire operations.
  22. Is there a way to chain more than one profile at a time in 4-axis wire? Every time I try it comes up with a warning "2 contours required for 4-axis wire path." I have a block with about 20 4-axis small profiles in it. I can chain everyone one at a time and put tool paths on them. But I was wondering if there was a way to chain them all at the same time like you can is 2 axis
