  1. Calm down, John. What version MasterCam do you try to install? If it dose not work, reinstall it. Or call your reseller for telephone support (It is very hard to help you without every detail). Do not try any fancy set-ups yet. Basic, Basic, Basic. There are always tomorrow.
  2. Jay, Do you know what your son will do? --"I gave my DAD's box with tools to the first person I met that had a desire to be a machinist. And I hope he passes it on to the next person. Tools that don't get used are a bad idea." They move in a new condo. Man, his wife hates your greasy old tool box! [ 08-14-2002, 07:47 PM: Message edited by: David S ]

    V9.1

    Boy, I am scared. MasterCam V9.0, V9 SP1, V9 SP1 (5-20?), V9 SP1 (6-20?), V9 SP1 (7-20?),... Now, we will have MasterCam V9.1, V9.1 SP1 (9-20), V9.1 (11-20),.... I love this message:" XXXXXX.dll in APP is not for your version, please delete it"
  4. Good Morning! It is a beautiful Sunday morning. Sorry Beav, I did not talk about you or those well-known dinosaurs. I talk about myself and the new(?)software in that catalog. This "CAM" is simple and neat prety much like Eric asked for "There must be some of this type of software availible to buy stand alone." Have a nice Sunday!
  5. It is a kind funny that push someone else's Cam in the MasterCam's forum. It is very exepensive to make their name known by thousands CAM users World wide. They can do it for free here. Anyway, I might find something for you in my office Monday. I have just received a catalog that talk about a software could be what you are looking for. If I found the name, I would send you E-mail privately. I will not promote other CAM products here. Can CNC make something like that? Sounds like there is a market. It is late now. Good night! 6. If you don't hate your past, if your children have not kicked you out your big house, keep them, keep memory alive. Your memory (not your money) is the only thing you can take with you when you die.
  7. AutoDesk: .DXF, .DWG Acrobat Distiller: .PDF
  8. quote: take it easy you guys your scaring the customers I agree. Mr. Heartwood is first time here and he is still thinking if they will convert to MC. We, MasterCam users should show some classiness reach out helping hands. Some one likes "fly a propeller airplane a couple of times a week", must have some good reasons. We should not label them too quick. We should know what kind "propeller airplane" Mr. Heartwood is flying and why. We should explain him patiently why jet airplane is better if Mr. Heartwood flying "the fifties type mass travel type airliner". I agree that MasterCam is better and more powerful than SmartCam if compare them apple to apple. I did use both (once upon time). For newcomer, yes, SmartCam has a Windows look, is friendlier. However, when you use more and more you will find out MasterCam is the one can get job done easier and faster. That was why I give up SmartCam at end. Baby’s bikes (pink or blue) always better looking than my mountain bike, and they have assistant wheels too. [ 08-08-2002, 01:30 PM: Message edited by: David S ]
  9. Try offset your contours which, you use as bounderies, about half of your tool Dia.
  10. Dear Heartwood, You are heart breaker. Another MasterCam using company is going to become SmartCam user. That hurt! Anyway, convert and save MC files to IGES format. This way you only can save the geometries for SmartCam. I don't see any better way to do it. MasterCam V9 can't even save and convert its own toolpathes to MasterCam V8. Well, good luck to your new company! Please do not lay off those MasterCam users. Thank you! PS. I have seen companies with 2 even 3 cams at same time. They share NC files. 11. Visit www.mscdirect.com. They have KURT sale this month. I like KURT.
  12. Finally, somebody talks. Before I thought, I was only one who is not smart enough to see the emperor’s new cloth. So many times, install MasterCam patches is one of my nightmares (another one is millionaire baseball players on strike). I have those 3 (? ) patch files in my C:, C:MCAM9, C:MCAM9APP, C:MCAM9MILL, C:MCAM9MILLPOSTS... Hey, one of them must be working. Can CNC makes patch installation easier for a simple guy like me? Thank you!
  13. Scott, You have to open a graphic software (like Windows Paint), go to Edit menu, click Paste, to see it. This way you will get a low res. screen-shot. [ 08-06-2002, 01:33 PM: Message edited by: David S ]
  14. Scott, Make sure try MetaCut VIEW demo only. You do not need other features. The VIEW is a NC file verify program. MasterCam Verify is a NCI file verify program. NCI file verify program will not tell your post processor result. This is why there are some machine crashes even though MasterCam Verify result is perfect. The VIEW is a very good safety software. In your case, I think your management will like its beautiful graphic. You can stop any tool operation at any point any time to zoom in and out, see the surface finishing and print in black/white or color on paper. It is too bad, the VIEW dose not have 4&5 axis version. (You do not need it anyway) NORWOOD is a small company. I respect this group hard working geniuses. I like their products.
  15. Now, I got! Try MetaCut View for MasterCam from NORWOOD DESIGN INC.. Their website: www.metacut.com It is about $150.00? It is very small and user friendly software(learning curve about 1 houre). It might be exact what you need.
  16. quote: Right now I am drawing the exact Solid for each operation. With the Vise,Jaws, nuts, and the stock with the half eaten part in it. I need a new feature . I am not quite following you. Try use Level feature that is: put your solid on one level and each operation on its own level (give name), then turn levels on and off. It might save you a lot of time to draw "the exact Solid for each operation". [ 08-05-2002, 04:31 PM: Message edited by: David S ]
  17. No, sir! Not MasterCam. Why are you using STL not the beautiful solid that you have spent hours on it? [ 08-05-2002, 02:05 PM: Message edited by: David S ]
  18. Nicholas, There were so many "things" flying out after I clicked your webpage. "Dad," a quite voice came from behind, my 8 years old boy asked me "Dose Mom know about the page you are reading?" "--Oops, It was an accident, son." Ha, ha, ha, I am not only one open the page. xxx.CRACKS.xx should pay you a lot of money for what you did for them. I am prety sure our little spy will report to his authority. And, I will get nothing tonight in my bedroom. God, it will be a long-- weekend. Thank you very much, Nicholas!
  19. quote: Every manufacturer puts out a problem product occassionally (lemons) but I know this is not a significant portion of the Haas machines. Also, some dealers can do things that are (or seem) unfair, and that's unfortunate. But please, enough Haas bashing: these are great machines, great values, and Made in the USA. Well put! I hope there is a HAAS forum for you AND your local HAAS dealer. So you people can go on and on...till? Good luck!
  20. Actually, it really is nothing from v8 upgrade to V9. You will just get some WOWs. Some new features, you did dream about while using V8, have added on V9. It will take about 1.5 days from "V8 pro" become a "V9 pro". However and BUT, with big "B", it will take you guys a lot of time and money from MILL2 upgrade to MILL3 and from surface to solid. Be prepared. Oh, do not forget ask your reseller to revise your post processor if you want 4th axis. Congratulation and good luck!
  21. Thad, Now, you are talking about something only "senior toolmakers", their experiences, can help. Like post processors, MC only can give you a guide line on defining a tool. Define a tool you have to consider: 1. your material, 2. your tool type, 3. your cooling method, 4. your part holding style, 5. your part finishing requirements (including the shape of the part you are cutting)... Proper defined tool can make tool last longer, get better surface and finish job faster. Try use MC guiding line on define a tool and fine tune your tools every time you cut a new part. quote: ...Without tools he is nothing... With tools and dose not know how to use them, also, he is nothing. - Bowling Ball
  22. quote: mastrecam just blinks once then shuts down with no message it's going to be shut down by windows or anything just poof it's gone If the "corrupted" NCI file shuts down MasterCam often, CNC Should consider it is a bug. "Corrupted" files or wrong operations should only generate an error message not shot down or "crash".
  23. Turn off PC to clean up memory, turn back on, do not run any other program, set MC verify options in low quality. If same thing happens again, you might need a new video card. Not every job is the same. That might be why some files work. Please check your PC (what year), your PC memory (how big), your video card (what brand) and your video card’s memory. It sounds like a hardware problem.
  24. quote: Regarding your comment above, BSA keeps infomants name confidential Really?? How??
  25. quote: 1. Choose Toolpaths, Operations or press [Alt+O] to open the Operations Manager. 2. Right-click on the NCI icon for an operation to open the Toolpath Editor. 3. Select a point in the toolpath that you want to change using the Cut, Pass, and Point fields. The selected point is highlighted in red. 4. Choose Edit. The Toolpath Editor menu displays and the tool move prior to the selected point is highlighted in magenta. 5. Choose Move Point. The Point Entry menu displays. 6. Use any point entry method to select a different position for the point. The toolpath redraws showing the moved point. 7. Choose OK to return to the Operations Manager. Notes: ¨ Select a point to move by choosing Select in the Toolpath Editor and picking a point in the graphics window. ¨ Undo the last toolpath edit by choosing Undo before returning to the Operations Manager. Make sure use BACKPLOT Step feature to find out it is the Z movement you want. You may create two vertical lines, which are same high and same location with your new Z clearance, for helping MOVE POINT locates the new points. Hope this will help
