  1. We have 1550 Vise towers from Chick on all our HMC's. I am looking at adding a few more pallets to have more modular work holding on. I'm thinking a Schunk Vero base would be the ticket.
  2. I no-quoted a part that had a 9" long 5/8 acme thread through it. Basically a tube threaded all the way through. I'm at a loss on how one would put that deep of a thread in short of using some sort of line boring machine. Anyone have thoughts or experience doing a thread like that? It seemed a bit much for tapping.
  3. Vardex and PH Horn would be a few more to look at.
  4. SumoCham from Iscar for general purpose is what I use. For high production Mapal has some really good drills. (Mapal can have delivery issues though)
  5. Gotchya, I would be interested in seeing how it works on the Fanuc if you end up getting one.
  6. For the Hardinge line I think you would be much happier with the "V" series machine vs the GX. I never had a ton of time on either but the "V" series is much more robust
  7. M695 (HARMONIC SPINDLE SPEED CONTROL ON) VFLTQ=10 (SPINDLE SPEED % OF CHANGE) VFLTP=5 (SPINDLE SPEED MLSEC OF CHANGE) VFLTR=0 (TIMER MUST = 0) Just out of curiosity, why do you say the dwell (VFLTR) must be 0? I usually have some small value in there. The VFLTP value needs to be large enough to allow change but that is all. How do you do it on a FANUC BTW?
  8. We had some on a recent job that had to be loaded manually due to the length.
  9. Those long LxD drills get spendy fast! I have been making our tooling supplier happy with all the 20x, 30x, and 40x drills I've bought lately. Makes me nervous seeing the $400 drill vibrating after a tool change but then it drills at 40ipm just fine
  10. I am hoping to build a power hammer in the next few years and try my hand at forging some Damascus. I need to get steel for the base and the anvil body.
  11. Stevens Engineering has a lot of modular work holding for HMC's. Tombstone City also has a selection of tombstones. I like looking through sites like those for ideas
  12. We use very few shrink fit and just do Mapp gas right now. Have not been able to justify the startup costs
  13. Imco is what we use for a lot of steel and stainless. The big issue with them has been poor inventory but rumor has it they are expanding. Right now I'm getting ready to test some Widin endmills that have gotten good reviews.
  14. Advent, Vardex, and Sandvik all make them
  15. I just write macros as a need arises. This week I modified a B-Axis fixture tracking macro from a HMC to be able to handle both B and C axis. I started with a version YoDoug made and added the additional calcs. Made a few deep hole drilling macros a few weeks ago.
  16. Okuma 44V would be a 40 taper to look at. Otherwise a Hardinge V480 (GX480 replacement) might be another option.
  17. They are not to expensive from what I remember. The biggest reason NOT to do a liner is if it will be rarely used and when it is used it is only for 1 or 2 bars, then you have these 3' liners taking up space on a rack to get used once a year. If you are going to use them more often, see if you can get a deal on 10 of the common sizes you might run and then make yourself a nice storage rack and be done with it
  18. Liners from Trusty Cook are great if you will be doing it frequently. For a one time deal or typically low volumes I used the aluminum donuts with a setscrew or 3.
  19. Kaiser New Baby Chuck might go that small.
  20. For the H and D changes my code is set to output as HA/DA which tells the machingredients to use the number of the tool in the spindle. (On our Okumas)
