  1. Hello All, Just had demo today on NCL. The salesman called it "Aerospace Smart", and i gotta admit a few of its features are so cool. What impressed me was the capability to create macros to do common chores. In their example; after answering a few prompts tooling tabs were automatically added to model and other macro cut rail-tops with wireframe entities (not surfaces). It would be great if some of these timesavers were incorporated in future MC releases. I will upload sample in MC8 directory, NCLDemo.mc8
  2. Mold100 and Jay, To clarify this again, If surfacing I would describe as 1.375 or 1.320 diam ??
  3. Dear Peter, The Island avoidance issue, and error message on rough-pocket only came up after i loaded every single update and patch on this site. But after reinstall and only 8.1.1 patch, all is OK.
  4. I cut many closed angle walls as you describe, but resort to old wireframe toolpaths and ignore undercut error. It is great to hear that u can now do surface toolpaths using dovetail cutters. Question; If using 1.375 diam dovetail with .125 rad., should I describe as 1.375 or would I use the resulting diameter after rad in this case about 1.320 ?.
  5. I apologize to all for my stupid attempt at humor.
  6. I incorporated all the patches on this site for version 8.0. 2 problems have arised: 1. Can no longer do Open Pocket Routine, with island avoidance. 2. In Surface,Rough,Pocket- As I enter rough parameters get errors: message 21-28 or so cannot be found in (msurf_surface_dlg)?? Ok my plan is to reinstall MasterCam, and my question is; wich patches and in what order should be installed? Would Add-ons with current patches update all??
  7. AhhYes!!, i recall this now from 6.0 days, Thanks. Along these lines, is it possible to show back colors with full time shading??
  8. "I believe its rapidly catching up to UG in 3D toolpath capabilities." ???
  9. I use Pancho's Hone shop down the street, about $7.00 a hole, no scrap, work s wondeful.
  10. After many years of IGES files from CATIA and UG. I have recieved 1st SAT file, the most wonderful thing i have seen.
  11. I have been working for 3 months now on family of parts, where have been using Open pocket routine with Island avoidance succesfully. Today I ran into problem where islands are ignored when using Open routine. Have tried all I can think of with no luck. Any suggestions?. V8.1.1
  12. My new company has asked me for some Cad Model Bitmaps to add to there website. Is there an easy way to save my geometry as such without resorting to "print-screen"?.
  13. I hear that Wichita is giving excellent wages for programmers. Any truth to this? SoCal is all dried up. Its awful going from $120K to $55K, especially if you own home in Orange County. I went from $40- 50hr weeks to $25 - 40 hr weeks.
  14. Allan I remember file to delete as Opengl.dll. But also one of text files in 6.1 explain what to delete.
  15. ahh?? KcCadcam, explain again please what trachoidal machining is.
  16. Im very much interested in taming this "xxxx" material, had a job once making wing skins, using 3/4" plate, about 4ft. x 8ft. Ran on vacumn with only 4 bolts at corners, (counterbores only left about .25 thickness). After completion, operator released vacumn valve, causing part to fold lengthwise ripping at bolts and cracking into 2 seperate pieces. I found this article, you all might be interested in. R.S.M.
  17. My previous employer purchased a 10k spindle machine, and bearings were overheating. Well after several service calls, their design engineer supplied us with balanced holders, to prove that cause of overheating was due to our cheap holders.
  18. I would love to attend ADI's UG classes. But the drive is a killer, I am in Orange County. I have been promised a great job if I brush up on my UG. Got laid off 3 mos ago so currently at a small job shop in Garden Grove (ADI, Boeing...). Well anyways, got another lead today. According to my tool rep, Forrest Machining in your area is "Taking all that walk in the door".
  19. Thanks all for your suggestions, will incorporate on my current project. It involves a 8"x30"x240" block of 7075. The thickest wall is at .250 and floors down to .08 at points. My most ambitious project to date. How do you manage feed rates as high as you state?. Must be on 10,000+ spindles, Im limited to 4000RPM.
  20. Totally off the subject, but I once successfully added a broaching tool to a VMC job.
  21. An employee of ADI mentioned that they need a CNC programmer. Not sure what system they use or even what city theyr'e in Valencia, Chatsworth??. Will notify here with all info ASAP.
  22. Has anyone heard of RSM, nonsequential balanced machining, and harmonic feeds and speeds?. Had a tooling engineer mention above terms concerning machining of thin wall/floor aerospace parts using 7075 alum. One of his claims is, all odd feeds and speeds seem to provide better results ex: 4011RPM instead of 4000RPM, 55.5 instead of 54 IPM etc....
  23. A word of caution, when selecting drill points, please disable auto-cursor. I had an expensive experience when first migrating to V8. Darn thing went back to sketch after first hole center.
  24. Version 8.1 includes a demo: sampleshighspeedhighspeed corner rounding.MC8. Could someone explain what causes tool to add radius at corners ?.
