My customer has come to me for advise. He wants to find a software package that does some specific things. He wants to be able to view all the major cad files (shaded models and 2d drawings)and to be able to calculate mass and volume of 3d models. I know Mastercam can do all that. But he will not be doing any machining. So maybe there are some non machining packages that will do what he needs. Any advise?
I uploaded JAW_1IN ALUM-toolpath.mc9. Toolpaths that would make your parts. It may not be the most efficient. But it will make your part. I program from a Moldmakers perspective not production.
I've done several woodworking projects using a CNC. It kind a feels like cheating, not using hand tools. But I enjoy it just the same, making something out of wood.
I seen on shows like American HotRod, they were cutting just a rim center.
How are those centers attached to the rims?
Is it possible to just buy rim blanks and cut and attach the centers yourself?

you can not have a 2d profile.

When you say you cannot have a 2d profile, do you mean any 2d chain? I just used this function, and I used only 2d chains and was able to get a pocket with island facing. To get it to work, I had to make sure the island chain was at the correct depth in relation with my pocket.
I tried to thicken your part but was not able to. I even tried converting it into surfaces, then removing all holes and slots, then back into a sheet solid, then thicken. Mastercam just hangs and does nothing.
Sorry
Changing computers is diffenitly a pain in the arse! But I am really looking forward to the new power, P4 3.4 ghz 1 gig of ram Quadro FX-500 & a 19" LCD
If I copy the .cfg file and Mastercam is installed on a differnt directory than the old computer, that might cause me some problems?
It might be better just to reconfigure on the new system. Agree?
Thanks!
While I said export, I really meant IMPORT. If I start to get this file type on a regular basis, I will bite the bullet and pay for it.
Cad/Cam Soulutions is my dealer, but someone has offered to import them for me.
Would it be inappropriate to ask the forum members for help in exporting a STEP file?
I know that the ability to read STEP files is a paid for add-on. We don't get enough of this file type to make worth paying for that option.
