  1. Good Eve, WOW crazy^Mill...sounds complicated Swarf-it You took the words right off my keyboard James! +1 I use Swarf 5x for outer shell face trimming, no reason why it cant work the same inner shell trimming or 5x circlemill perpendicular to a dome or sphere center...HMMMM thas kewl, I just got another couple ideas Thanks again....gota go Tony G CNCme Engineering LLC X Beta Site SO Almost Employed Senior Programmer N.E Massachusetts - Southern New Hampshire _________________________________________ End mills and tooling are like The "AMMO" And coolant and chips are like the enemy Under your boots as you advance in the Manufacturing Battle -------------------------------------------------

  5. Good Day, +1 Many of the new design parts, I circlemill all reamer type holes. Reaming is old world, but there are still people doing it for special applications. Or non-CNC machining parts. 8. Good Day, There are many factors that control what ABS number tells you. 1. Is the part Z zero the top of the part 2. Also do you use work coordinate Z values other than zero. 3. Are the tools touched on the part or a tool setter inside the nachine. 4. Are you using G43 G53 G52 or G91 to control how Z is used in the body of the program. Quote: ______________________________________________ I am running typically 8 - 12 differnt offsets per part due to the complexity of the piece, _______________________________________________ In these 8-12 offsets, is the Z value for each offset on the top face of the part? How do you control 8 -12 Z part Zeros for each tool. If you use G0 G90 G54 X Y G43 H1 Z.25, while touching tool off on top of part enter the machine Z value in lenth offset #1. Make sure the G54 Z value = zero When the program says Z.25, the ABS will read Z.25 and the tool will be .25 from the top of the part. It will not matter how many offsets you use as long as the top face of the part is the part Z zero. 9. Good Day, There are Fanuc parameters for some display features, but I think some(older)controls only read from home or Z zero return. Also do you use work coordinate Z values other than zero. --------?Which fanuc control is this?---------- Tony G CNCme Engineering LLC X Beta Site Almost Employed Senior Programmer N.E Massachusetts - Southern New Hampshire _________________________________________ End mills and tooling are like The "AMMO" And coolant and chips are like the enemy Under your boots as you advance in the Manufacturing Battle -------------------------------------------------
  10. Good Day, Same idea as eric but you dont have to switch to metric. OK here is what I do Select the metric holes to drill and create an operation create a tool - RH tap for M3 X .5 In the "threads" field type 1 /(divided) by (.5 Pitch * .03937) like this: 1/.5*.03937 or 1/.5/25.4 hit enter to calculate should = 50.8 TPI(thread per inch). Put 3/25.4 in the diam. feild for 3MM diam.(.118). If you want to see a tool comment, go to define tool parameters page and type M3 X .5 in the comment field and set rpm to 1000 and the feed should be 19.685 . and now you have created a .118-50.8 tap now save it and you could create a library of american metric taps. 20. Good Day , If you go to job setup, you can set the tool offset registers for length and diameter to add an amount to give you H1 and D31. Using this feature will only work on a new mastercam session, not an existing file. This can also set in screen -config. -NC settings -Operational defaults Tony G CNCiT Precision Machine - Hudson,NH X Beta Site Almost Employed Senior Programmer N.E Massachusetts - Southern New Hampshire MasterCam X "Has made my job a "Hole" lot easier"
  21. Good Day , What Crazy says is if you output: G43 Z# H1 G1 Z-# G41 X# D1 If the length (H) is 12.5 then the (D1) will also read the 12.5. If your machine has 30 tool magazine, then the first D# for tool 1 is D31. Fadel and Haas and yasnac can use H1 and D1. 22. Good Day, Quote 1: assorted BS Quote 2: I'll have about a year's shop experience under my belt. Quote 3: Sophomore Mechanical Engineer Another engineer with (a) BS...I dont know what you think you should make now, but dont expect to make much as an Engineer. Average Salary of most Secondary operation engineers, Which is where you fall in 12/15 years, (Processes, tooling, and (most can't) programming) Is at most 60K, and on salary you will work 53-57 Hrs.min. Lets see, thats avg. 20.Hr. And thats when Manufacturing was good. Who Knows what it will be in even 5 years.(or 2008) Suggestion: If you only have 1 year under your belt...find another line of work, you still have time to save yourself. All seriousness aside, I have 33 years In the trade, now working as a CNC process Engineer/Programmer/senior machinist/deburrr (yea whatever). BUT, don't get me wrong, I love my work, BUT, If I could of seen the future, I would of found something else. 25. Good Day, GeForce are gaming cards, I have found them to have problems, and some people have good luck. I am a nit picker, chaining direction arrows and axis indicators seem to get lost or flicker, and that 2 notches from the bottom of graphics accelleration does not fly in my book. The QuadroFx series is a TRUE Cad-Cam card, handles OpenGL perfect, no flicker or lost stuff. With graphics accelleration at full. Oh, and I say again, duel monitors support is it!!
