  1. Treat it like Inconel 625. I make lots of R&D parts out of this. It work hardens and grows back, moves all over the place. I would personally like to cut inco 625 over this. Every batch is different also. I do turn and mill work. Use of low stepover max depth of cut is the way to mill. Turning I use kc5510 grade from kennametal. Drilling I use Gurhing with firex coating 70sfpm. This might sound conservative to some but my parts are six figures easy and we don't get a setup part. I would never recommend HSS/cobalt unless your drilling a small a286 fastener out. Dynamic high speed tool paths work really well with superalloys. Don't be afraid to use tool inspection points. I usually put a 30 min check when hogging.

  3. It's great to validate what I am hearing on my end. The cream does rise to the top and is hard to pull away. I have a dream job at a dream machinist workplace and we can not buy a vowel when it comes to hiring. At the local machinist tech colledge gets everyone hired after six months. Yes these are hi 5 figure maybe 6. What I see is the same an older guy tired of where he is at due to no advancement and then he stays cause they gave him a one time bump.

  5. The other side of that coin is that we are standing on the shoulders of giants. Look at the sr71. No CNC, thousands of hand made titanium parts. I often think "how in the hell did they make this without?" when looking at stuff like the turbopumps for the Apollo program.
  6. I live in an absolute and R&D world. I have not made more than 10 of anything in 10 years. This really depends on what world your in. Sheet metal, medical, aerospace. All have different needs. I am in the process of due diligence with a machine similar to a Mori seiki NT, or a lathe with live tooling and Y, plus horizontal mill for a specialized group. I make ridiculous parts out of the "nel" and "Loy" family of metals. It's harder than I thought to make a choice.
  7. Cutting Inconel on the weekend is not fun.
  8. There are some really strong torlon inserts with a steel insert out there, that can be bonded in. Be careful the dust does not get out of control. It's not good for you or your electronics.
  9. Does anyone here program or run one of these machines? I am curious about your thoughts on the brand in general, service etc...
  10. Treadmill to the basic diameter. They will usually cut small, comp from there. I lie the SCT staggered tooth NPT threadmills.
  11. Simple green (green color) can cause hydrogen embrittlement on high strength steels. Clear simple green, or the aerospace simple green is ok. The green stuff is banned where I work.
  12. There is actually a compound you can fill the cells up with then wash out with water and reuse. I can't remember the name, but that's how the big aerospace places get it done. Use no silicone based compounds either.
  13. Watch out for the batch of Fadals that were 104D retrofits to Fanuc 18i.
  14. I think that I have finally opened the exit door to MCX where I work. It just can't do the two turrets, two spindle and 5 axis simultaneous in a R&D environment.
