  1. John, Are you running just one probe cycle or multiple? R0 in macro will run cycle one time and R1 will run it 3 times and register average of them. Thats what I use with Renishaw. Average of three measurements, with no problems with regards to repetability... Hope it helps Kind regards, Mark
  2. If you want to go for a used one there is going to be avail about a dozen of them in my area. Got a call from a local guy who bought the whole lot. Most of them are sv500 from late '90. We have sv50 which is similar to them. The only thing we have been doing to it as far as a maintenance is concerned since we got it in '98 is add oil and clean it Awesome machines... Mark
  3. Bob, try the Duracenter 5. Ours is coming on monday It's a less expensive sibling of nv5000 (the same casting and size). There is not a whole lot of options avail for it. It's 20hp instead of 30hp and xyz axis are about 60% of power of nv5000. No pallet option for this one but costs a bit over 100 grand. I did a bit of research for this model and it seems there are no complains so far. I got in an argument with a bossman, because I wanted nv5000 but looks like we made a good choice here as it is gonna be used for short runs and med cuts in alloy steel (btw, we opted for a big plus spindle). We have 3 more Moris here and imho they are the best Propably will look at a horizontal mori later this year. Mark
  4. I thought you are from Englewood also... Laffeyette? Drop me an email or call me at 303-761-4164 when you are in the area... I almost live at work Mark
  5. Aaron, Looks like I'm just around the corner. J M Quality Machining in Englewood (Santa Fe & Oxford) Would be great to get together sometime Mark
  6. There goes our chance to interrogate him a bit +1 to MayDay Mark
  7. Hi Aarron quote: Your step over should be about 5-7% of your cutter dia. Hardmill's figure is pretty close. For .375 em I'd try to take .010" max I found manufacturers recommendation when it comes to these types of em to be pretty close. But you need a good, rigid machine to be able to run like this. Denver? Where exactly if I might ask? There is not many here from Colorado (only 5 or so I think) Kind regards, Mark
  8. I've done some S7 62hrc on several occasions and this particular job is a bit tough. I use hanita and niagara 5 and 6 fl, forgot the names (Vision? or similar) but both companies have awsome stuff for hard milling. Anyway the problem I see is you need about 600+ sfm and about .0025 chip load which will give a very high feedrate and make holding this tolerance almost impossible. Endmill is going to chock in a hole that small even if you try using 3/8 em (if you find one with loc that long). Helical could work a little better but IMHO try boring or jig grinding it first. Cutting this stuff to very close tolerance is not a big deal anymore but your particular application is quite challenging (small hole) Well, I guess I didn't help you much here Kind regards, Mark
  9. Thanks for the replies guys. Yes Glenn I've seen this page but it involves registry ediding and I'd like to stay away from it...Bad experience CrazyMillman it will work but it adds another step to it and i'm lazy Anthony, I was aware of NC Base but might have a hard time convincing a boss for an upgrade. We just spent quite a change for another Mori and new dells... I'll give You a call though. Kind regards, Mark
  10. Forgot to say it is for OEM Cimco Edit 4.32.09 version. Mark
  11. Question for Cimco guys... When I use "A word or phrase in the file search criterion" to find a .nc file containing a drawing number it won't work with Win XP Pro like it used to with Win 2000 and earlier versions. Apparently In Microsoft Windows 2000 and earlier versions of Windows, all files are searched for the content that you specify. Windows XP does not search all file to enhance the performance of searching. According to microsoft site a filter component is not registered for the file type that contains the text that I specified. (.nc file that is...) Is there a fix from Cimco Integration for this??? I use this as a "poor man's" data base. The deal is I include drawing #s, revision and other stuff with my .nc programs, so when I get a new job I search for it in my .nc programs to see if I have a file for it. Since getting a new dell with xp pro last week I can't do that anymore I figured it can be done by ediding registry to allow indexing files with unknown extensions but hate to go for it (bad memories ) Any help greatly appreciated Kind regards, Mark
  12. I seriously doubt if the quality of those machines went down recently. All they make now from what I know is boring machines. They used to make excellent verticals also (we have couple of them here). Bottom line is their mills were a lot better then early moris and I know of a quality shop still using several kuraki boring machines holding VERY tight tolerances all day long. Kind regards, Mark
  13. Kuraki all the way Chad. I'm assuming you are talking about used machines? Make sure they are gear driven... Quality of Kuraki from '80 and early '90 is as good as Mori lathes from those years. If they were taken care of you should be in good shape. Very solid machines. Hope it helps Kind regards, Mark
  14. quote: we were told the posts should pretty much work out of the box for us Pretty much, yes. Looks like nobody wants to touch this subject today This is a friendly forum, so if you have SPECIFIC post questions ask away. Here is a quote from mms online forum: "... they are a friendly bunch as long as you don't ask for a post. If you do they will eat you alive..." btw, welcome to the forum Kind regards, Mark
  15. quote: RC45-49 That's not very hard. Ceramic should work fine, small cut but fast (run dry). I don't think it's hard enough to use CBN. Hope the part is roughed out before ht Mark
  16. CMR: I wonder if Mori could give customers credit for CRAPPS ii Mark
  17. quote: Left a year ago. Just in time Psychomill , Heard they are going out of business... CMR: Duracenter with a pallet system? I don't think it's available for this model, but I could be wrong. BRADST: Those are my thoughts also. Looks like Duracenter is stripped down and weaker sibling of NV5000. Appreciate the info guys. Peace Kind regards, Mark
  18. quote: We had 27 Moris (and then some) Can't think of anyone that has 27+ moris in Englewood. Out of curiosity, who did you work for?. Was it Computerized? And I thought I knew most of the shops in the area I'm in the same place since '89 Kind regards, Mark
  19. quote: Have you tried talking to Mike? Looks like you are from this area Psychomill. Yes we know Mike and Mark very well. As I said Triad has best tech support. We got all but one of our machines from them. And zero problems so far. The reason I posted here is to get users opinions on any of those two machines. Personally I think Duracenter is a little underpowered but is nv5000 worth extra 60k? That is my bosses dilemna. They are both very durable and accurate so anything he picks is gonna be a keeper, after all those are moris jmparis, how do you like nv5000 so far? I think it has an indexing and locking spindle? What options would you recommend? We cut mostly ss, 4100-4300 steels and tool steels (no high volume production). If it's alum. it must be a holiday Come on guys, those are quite popular machines so there must be some users on this forum... Any one willing to chip in? Kind regards, Mark
  20. quote: I'd get some technical data on both machines from Triad Triad it is. They are an awsome bunch. Best tech support ever. Just need a bit of second opinion to make a good decision. After all Moris last forever... Regards, Mark
  21. quote: Compared to the NV... I don't know Exactly, neither do I.... Hey James, went over some of his pictures from Japan and looks like you were there at the same time; short hair, big sunglasses, grey shirt, very much like the picture you posted recently. My boss was prolly the only smoker in the group.. Regards, Mark
  22. Very possible James. I'll go over some pictures and see if you were there at the same time. Now back to the subject... what do you guys think. I'm a little spoiled here with a 50 taper sv-50 but if above are the only diff between the two I don't see a reason to go for the more expensive one... Anyone? Kind regards, Mark
  23. O'k guys, Duracenter 5 is a Mori too I'm choosing between two moris here... No James, my boss went to Japan some 5 years ago. I wish I went too after seeing some pictures... Kind regards Mark
  24. quote: It's a Mori Seiki... I know James We've got quite a few of them. Just trying to figure out a diff. between those two. Of all the people around here you prolly know the most about them, so...care to elaborate? I know about xyz power, better spindle and some sheet metal is better on nv. I don't think it justifies a 60k diff, do You? Is there anything I missed? Kind regards, Mark
  25. Anyone there? Sure there is some Mori users around here Kind regards, Mark
