  1. try reducing the radius value for the helix to less than half of the cutter dia to produce a helix entry
  2. i didnt look at the feed and rpm so those are not correct but the cut widths and depths should be ok with decent tooling and a good setup CHRISTMAS TREE.MCX-7
  3. yep i know the feeling, but ill check it out saturday sometime during f1 qualy
  4. i didnt see the autobot or decepticon option? haha!! but how do you like it? is it comfortable during long periods of use?
  5. i have the m510, does the g400 still utilize the set point software? i had a problem some time ago with the customizing functions for the buttons not working properly, i believe i uninstalled and then reinstalled the set point software and it worked fine after that
  6. thats sweet!! id also like to see that intergrated into the solids op manager, and the toolpath manager
  7. i did some research on tool setters a few months ago a few makes that come to mind are parlec, elbo controlli and zoller look for models that clamp the tool in the spindle and have video imaging, those type are within that spec, but they are quite salty some do an incredibly detailed tool inspection, i was quite surprised at some of the things that can be checked i would also be looking at does it network well, and is the software user friendly i'm sure you want to be able to set up a job of tools via the setter , save the lengths\dia offsets to a file\folder via the network so you can just load tools and the offsets file at the machine
  8. ok now were on the same boat, if you can provide me with a file that shows what the part will look like after the lathe op, i could do a toolpath using the rotary and a 3 axis rest machining for roughing and finish surface path, but i cant do it until the weekend also any idea on what size mills you want to use?
  9. pretty neat!! i wont be any help on the 5x machine, ive never programmed or run 5x mills, i dont quite understand is the star piece going to be one part with the tree or are you turning the tree, star and the top cone as separate parts and bolting them together?
  10. hey are radii permitted in the valleys at the intersections? if so how big ? what size material are you staring with? and whats a VR2 haas? is that like their vmc with a axis rotary? (meaning the rotation axis is parallel with x axis) hth
  11. another method using a nurbs defined ellipse, is creating points at the locations as you have pictured and then using the trim to point function
  12. like ben said, id cancel that in the subs too, heres what the end of my subs look like, used on a fanuc 16i , 18i and 32i doosan horizontals, G00 Z3.712 G05.1 Q0 M09 G91 G28 Z0. G49 G90 M01 M99 hth
  13. thanks for the responses joe788 thanks for the ref, but no stock on the particular kit i needed, (ive called many places in addition to your ref) so we started searching for a comparable oring at some of our seal distributors and hopefully we hear back in the morning with good news Sticky you're correct its made of teflon, that seems like its pretty soft machining wise and we probably dont have sharp enough tooling for that in our lathe dept or the time in the machines to figure out how to successfully make a 65mm id 3.5mm round cross section ring from plastic that also has a mirror finish, id try a square one but completely round is gonna be hard to do having to part it off we still have one compressor running the show, but its not enough to do it all when we use air blast for tool cooling in the hmcs
  14. im in a pinch and an stinkin oring has shut down one of our air compressors, we called ingersoll rand and they say 30 days for an oring, so does anybody have an alternate source for ingersoll parts? (im googling after this is posted) i would try just getting a oring but the one i need is made of some white plastic like material and i dont know what it is exacly? and ive tried using one that we so happen to have stocked in our assembly area. the one i tried was slightly softer and it sucked it in the intake when i tried turning it on so that was no bueno TIA
  15. try this be in mcam mill click view, then toggle multi threading manager, click the exclamation, see if the max # of threads matches the number of cores your cpu has
  16. i would think that would be able to work with g68 coordinate rotation on a haas, i made my own macro on a mazak that had one years ago, probe 2 points and calculate the angle off in the axis and enable g68 with the calculated angle difference, i dont remember the program specifically , but that was the concept
  17. thats cool , i have a kitamura hx400 with a slow leak somewhere in the temperature control oil system, and its somewhere on the headstock and its been impossible to find where its been coming from with the waylube and residual coolant drips allover the place do you think it would work in a hydraulic system? i have doosan dhp400 that also slow leaks hydraulic oil, and i think its coming out of the unclamp cylinder and again its near impossible to find with the waylube drips allover the headstock
  18. anybody else like to see a grouping function like in the toolpath manger added to the solids manager? just as a way of organizing the list when you have a large number of solids in a file
  19. dont ignore its an easy fix most likely a leak somewhere (once the lube pump cycles it should hold pressure for about 3min from memory ill check the parameter tomorrow if i remember),or the suction filter is dirty inside the reservoir, or the pressurized filter is dirty outside the lube pump, or the pressure switch is kaput, or wires for the pressure switch are dry rotted and cracked off, on our vf1 the lube line corroded along the base and nothing was getting lubed, ended up getting ignored for a long time , it trashed the thrust bearings and the ballscrew in the x and y and only took me about 2 or 3 hrs to diagnose and fix the lube line
  20. the way i found it was to searching the registry for "mastercam.exe" and when you find the one listed under the applications folder, open up all the drop downs till you see "command" then simply change the directory to 7 instead of 6, after i did that it now gives me the option under the "open with" to use x7 or x6 when opening up x6 files from explorer this also worked for cimco opening up with the old version despite repeatedly selecting the open with program
  21. if you decide to get milling chucks , ive used parlec and lyndex, make sure you find out how much is is to rebuild it, and if they will sell you the needle bearings and seals to rebuild it yourself, (parlec will and lyndex will not) the frequency of rebuiding would depend on conditions, we have 1000psi thru spindle coolant and im always finding the grease is washed out and swarf craps up the needle bearings about every 6mo im taking them apart and cleaning, replacing the needle bearings and repacking the grease, i think is about $20-40 for the parlec rebuild kit depending on the size chuck, for the lyndex brand you have to send them the chuck and they quote you a rebuild price per holder, and also if the holder is not perfect even if its tenths out of tolerance they will not rebuild it an that pretty much forces you to buy a new holder as far as hydraulic holders ive never used them but id make sure you find out if the ones your thinking about purchasing are rebuildable, ive read a few articles about some that are and some are not ercollet and side lock holders will pretty much be maint free and will have a much longer service life they do have special collets with very low runout, but the key is the same brand for the holder, nut and collet and also getting a torque wrench set so you know everything is properly tightened imo haimer makes the best er systems but get the regofix torque wrench set quality retention knobs will also help runout we use the jm machine brand high torque knobs they are the best imo
  22. i want to output 2 lines of code for a macro at the end of a 2d contour op, im using the change at point and manual entry function, and the code i want to output is getting truncated (only when using "After" "before and with" do not truncate), is this the post doing this? i looked thru it this morning and couldn't find anything that would be controlling that post wise. also i noticed the box for the change at point manual entry field does not behave like the toolpath manual entry field, it will not allow you to hit enter to signify another line of code like the toolpath manual entry
  23. mtb, im sorry i should have stated that correctly and clearly, ones a 2001 doosan dhp400 and the other is a 2001 kitamura hx400, but really any manufacturer that puts the fanuc control on the right side of the the door the card is in the line of fire, especially when the operator pivots the control out of the side of the machine
  24. i didnt mean they worked their way down in mid cycle, they had accumulated and so happened to short out mid cycle, on fanuc horizontals with controls on the right side of the operator door, the card reader is right next to the door on the left side of the screen , the card gets blasted all day with debris and coolant if your opening the door to check tools and part features, removing accumulated chips, etc.
  25. a Fanuc with a data server option will do the same thing i do it all the time on prove outs, i just re post from Mastercam and can go directly to the machine and restart the sequence without doing anything but searching the n number and hitting start, changing the program is just a few button pushes, its a very nice option and easliy worth the money if you do a lot of different parts of lower quantity that would require large programs, we still have 2 machines that dont have it and using the pcmcia card is just and extra step plus another variable to go wrong, both of the machines have been crashed in the past because that card got dirt an chips down in the pins and shorted out mid program plus also dealing with bent pins on readers and adapters have screwed me at crunch time
