  1. What language are the post processors written in?
  2. Being from the shop, and not a computer programming background, how do you learn post editing? Whenever I open mine up it looks greek to me.
  3. Thats the way I would like it to run. Once we get our posts tweaked just right it will be a lot easier. We also have programs that are made on the shop floor that we would like to be able to store and modify, but are not sure how.
  4. We figure the effective cutting diameter, and base our speed off of that for whatever matl. We us alot of 1/2 inch or smaller ball nose EMs, which makes us max out our spindle speed (8000) and keep a good chip load on it.
  5. Is there a way that I can bring a program that has been edited, or even created at the machine back into MC. Then at a later date, make additional changes. We need to implement a system of managing our files so various edits of programs don't end up floating around the shop. I had a problem with a "proven program". I found the problem, four different operators using four different programs. Unacceptable!
  6. I have a flowline toolpath that goes around a 90 degree corner. The tool retracts at the corner, rapids to the other side, plunges back down and continues on. How do I keep the tool down? I've been messing with the gap settings, but no luck. Any help would be appreciated.
  7. How do you determine if your addendum is wide or if you teeth are to deep using the pin method
  8. toolpath/next menu/ circ toolpaths/ threadmill. pick your points then in the thread mill tab you can put the angle in the taper angle box.
  9. Is there a way to define the shape of a form cutter I am using so I can see it on verify?
  10. When I went to school, they had a "gear tooth vernier caliper". It measured the addendum and I believe the chordal height. The pitch was determined by how many teeth on a certain dia. I haven't cut any gears in 14 years, so I really don't know for sure.
  11. Should it be 30,000 or 300,000?
  12. I'm not a computer guy. Just a guy who uses one. I'm doing a fairly simple surf/rough/poc op, and I keep getting "allocation is to low: Blah Blah Blah" so I go to screen/config and change the toolpath allocation from 4000 to 30,000. Which is about half my machines RAM. (Thats the Blah Blah Blah part) and I still get the error. Doesn't seem to have a problem with the huge finish paths, but does with the smaller rough. What now?
  13. Thanks James. I'll give it a try.
  14. I can't seem to get my tool to stay down on a flowline toolpath that cuts across several similar surfaces. It retracts and rapids over to the next surface. The space between the surfaces is about .25 and I have tried my gap distance up to an inch. What am I missing?
  15. I cant seem to use boundaries with surface finish flowline. Is this standard?
  16. What does the "to batch" check box on the tool paremeters page in the operations maneger do? Is it some kind of filter?
  17. my machine would be G83 Z(final depth)R(peck)F(feed)next line G80
  18. Are you sure your machine doesnt have canned cycles? G80 turns off the canned cycle. That would return it to Z0
  19. There may be a switch in your post processor. I dont know much about the post but I had a similar problem with my HURCO. G18 instead of G17. One switch did the trick. Who is the post processor guru on the fourm?
  20. Never had a problem in 8 with it, but something is different in 9.
  21. Using surf rough parallel, how do I keep my tool from plunging on the part? I need it to start off the part because it is non center cutting. Not talking about start point here, talking about each individual path.
