  1. Open Mastercam, go to Screen Configure Start/Exit At the top of this window, there's a box that says Startup configuration file. Click that and select MILL9.CFG(English) Now, just to make sure, while in Screen/Configure, go to NC Settings, and down to the left you'll see a button that says Operation Defaults... Open it and apply everything you want to be a default for each operation type you're going to use. A lot of areas here can be set to incremental. Set them to your liking. This will control how Mastercam starts. Exit Mastercam and restart, you should be in English Units. If you're still having problems, ensure you are using an ABSOLUTE post, not an INCREMENTAL one. Hope this helps. -Rekd [ 12-04-2002, 10:53 AM: Message edited by: Rekd ]
  2. There was a post a couple years ago looking for information pertaining to the extraction of Manufacturer's Code and Chuck parameters to a setup sheet. It referenced MP.HLP and a Master ISO Post found in the post tab of this forum. I don't have MP.HLP on my system, is there a place I can download it? Or can I get it from the Mastercam CD? (I tried to look in the .cab files, but they're not supported by XP for viewing/extracting manually.) The Master ISO post is not available any more in V8 or V9 posts sections. Is it in MPMASTER.PST? http://www.emastercam.com/cgi-bin/ultimate...ic;f=1;t=000812 Thanks -Rekd [ 12-04-2002, 10:31 AM: Message edited by: Rekd ]
  3. Much better having only 1 file for 1 part, eh Zero? I agree, THANKS CNC! [ 11-29-2002, 06:47 PM: Message edited by: Rekd ]
  4. I have, but it was not as effective and easy. Or mayhaps I just didn't understand it completely. At any rate, the question still remains; can it be or is it being incorporated into the NCI file to associate the WCS with the Stock Size? -Rekd
  5. I've been programming for eons, and I have become S00O accustomed in the past to creating a seperate CAM file for each operation I'm going to do on a part. Now, since the new WCS feature in MC, You'd have to chop my fingers off the get me to even THINK about creating more than one file... It's so much easier and effective to see the ENTIRE part verified on all operations at the same time. And being ablt to, from the CAM file, post each file seperate to run at different times, or post together to run in different vises at the same time, makes it even better. I have a couple of obsticals though, like stock sizes for setup sheets. I made a custome .SET file some time ago, (V-8 i think) but it is only accurately representitive for the first Operation. Am I missing some feature that accounts for this? Or is there anything in the works that will allow you to associate the current view with the stock size and orientation that's output to the nci file? I don't want to have to make a change to the stock size to match the WCS for each operation's setup sheet, and I consider that YOUR fault at CNC Software for making me so dependant on that damned WCS in the first place! BTW, in my opinion, the new WCS features are the single most important update you've made to MC in V9. Thanks. -Rekd
  6. Got my vote. But looks like TG's got some catching up to do! Keep voting kids! We only need 700+ more votes to take the lead! -Rekd
  7. As Bertau said, If the print does not state to get dimensions from the CAD file, then don't. Take what is dimensioned from the print and use it. Otherwise, unless stated on the PO, you MUST make it to the PRINT, not the CAD file. In some cases, it may be a very complex part without enough room to put all dims on the print, so they are taken from the CAD file. Unless this is the case, you're at fault. -Rekd [ 11-27-2002, 07:14 PM: Message edited by: Rekd ]
  8. LOL @ thad Not much defense to go with that offense either.. Happy T-day all! Don't eat so much that you can't fit behind your desk! [ 11-27-2002, 06:43 PM: Message edited by: Rekd ]
  9. If you post what you need changed, mayhaps you could get some 'freebee' advice from us local post guru's. I'm sure most of us wouldn't mind helping out if there's not too much you need done. -Rekd
  10. Andrew, I don't do Krispy Kreams, but when I get splooge from my filled doughnuts on the keys, I just poor some Coke on it; washes right away... -Rekd [ 11-25-2002, 03:10 PM: Message edited by: Rekd ]
  11. Jay, If you haven't found one yet, I have one for a mycenter 3. Prestaged tools, program stop, GON, GOFF contour control, and some other things in Misc. Values, plus a drill cycle used for part location with what I call a Tool Stop or Drop Stop. (Locating pin in spindle, great when you need to stop agains a surface that you can't put a hard stop on, or will be cutting.) If interested, lemme know. -Rekd

  13. TREVOR!!! Sup bud? Momma's doing good, junior's due on or about Dec 23. I can't wait! Also, I'm starting a new job Monday with a company that uses Mastercam. I am SO glad to be done with Gibbs. Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming: You're correct, I have read through this thread 3 times now, and yes, he/she is getting flamed for a reason that is not his/her own fault. And I have seen this happening quite often as of late. It's too bad too because this is not the place for it. This forum used to be very 'family' oriented, and it's gradually losing that status IMO. (I'm not excluding myself from this, either.) What happened to him/her is not entirely his/her own fault. I feel that he/she made an honest mistake, but was able to learn from it. That's what this forum should be about... not about rubbing it in someone's face when he/she has "just been taken..." I'm sure everyone that's reading this has been "taken" at one time or another, and it's not fair, nor funny, to flame them for it.

  15. Getting flamed for ignorance is just wrong. I have a saying also; "Ignorance can be bliss, but stupidity should be painful". In some cases, ignorance can also be painful. But if you learn from it, so much the better. I'm glad the auction house had the kahones to take back that which they shouldn't have been selling in the first place. Kudos to mdf also. You almost got duped, but looks like all's well that ends well. -Rekd
  16. Yeppers, Ultra Edit is real nice. Customizable color coding, macros, tabular style open file system and user definable tools. Plus MANY MANY other nice features. Very nice program, well worth the money. -Rekd
  17. Chris, the sig said: I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family. Not some mid-level government disfunctionary with a bad comb-over handing it out to crack addicts squirting out babies. Yeah, I can see how that would be very offensive, especially if you're a crack addict on un-employment or welfare... And that bumper sticker you saw is cute, but that's part of the problem. If they can't afford to feed them, they simply have more because the government will just give them more money... -Rekd [ 09-28-2002, 02:23 PM: Message edited by: Rekd ]

  19. quote: the one good thing about gibbs is the mouse facing and the way it does subroutins and thats it!! Well, you got it half right... the mouse facing is nice, but the subroutines can be done just as well in mastercam with the right post, if not better. And good luck getting Gibbs to modify a post for you and actually get it right. Some other nice features with Gibbs, (not to beat a dead horse), are the geometry expert, the ability to generate multiple tool/operations at the same time, and the engraving. Hope you don't mind having to create points to trim lines/arcs/splines together. Hope you don't mind not having total control over your toolpaths. Hope you don't mind having to create 1/3 more geometry than is necessary. Hope you don't mind........ blah blah blah. Eh, what the h3ll, at least you're working. -Rekd
  20. As a machinist, you will never get rich. As a machinist, you will never go hungry. GL in what ever you choose. -Rekd
  21. quote: All I want is something that is easy to use, works perfectly every time for every machining situation I encounter and I have complete control over every machining aspect. Is that too much to ask????? Heh. Easy to use? Yes Works every time for every situation? heh. Complete control over all aspects? closer than most. I've never had the pleasure of Edgecam, but I've used MC, Gibbs, (both virtual and pre-virtual GibbsNC), Cimitron, Surfcam and, (ack) Bobcad. Mastercam wins hands down in my opinion... -Rekd [ 09-10-2002, 10:18 PM: Message edited by: Rekd ]
  22. Sean, I don't think it's a matter of the EM's capabilities, but more the machine it's running on. I used to run a boston digital that would finish complex surface shapes in 3 axis at 100+ IPM with as small as .012 dia EM's in graphite. Keep in mind that this machine knows when it can make it around a corner, and will slow down accordingly. Many machines do this. Extremely fun stuff, and it will make some of the old-schooler's step back.. -Rekd
  23. Lol, Chris. The right choice of words and presentation is 90% of the battle. You can get people to do almost anything if you present your case the right way. I was just being figurative. I have actually said things like that, in that manner, and had excellent results, but only because the person(s) involved were fully aware I was joking with them and blowing out of proportion what I was trying to convey to them. This is a 2 way street, though. When I get to a level of relationship with someone that I can openly joke with, they are fully aware that I can and will accept the same in return. It's a way of bringing those below you up to your level. In many cases it creates more trust, better work ethics and numerous other benefits if they know you're willing to treat them as equals on certain planes. Some people, no matter how well you know them, would not appreciate it. You have to know when you can joke with people and when you cannot. -Rekd
  24. Trevor, Thanks! Haven't talked to Mattie in months. Almost the season to drag him and the Mrs to the desert. Herbert, That's a quote from George Carlin. Although he can be a bit extreme, this made great sense to me; I work hard for what I've got, and I get very, um, defensive when all these people that are perfectly capable of working would rather sit on their arse and collect MY money without doing anything productive for the community. But that's another topic on another board. [ 09-08-2002, 06:28 PM: Message edited by: Rekd ]
  25. TREVOR!!! Hey bud. Guess what.. Mrs Rekd is preggies. Gonna be a boy. Talk to Mattie lately? -Rekd
