  1. Man, I'd hate to see this forum go away...................................................................................... Mike R.
  2. Got it. Works good now. Time to back up the parameters to disk.... Mike R>
  3. Yup, big difference between g90 & 91 in this line. But it works now. Don't ask why...Like I've said, I've had NOTHING but problems with this machine being both inconsistant and unrelialbe. Thanks for all your suggestions! Mike R.
  4. Hey Toolman, what do you mean by: POOR MIKE I AM AMAZED AT HOW MANY PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW HOW TO MACHINE THIS MATERIAL IT IS VERY SIMPLE What did I say that was incorect??? Mike R.
  5. Thanks James' A colegue (sp) got the machine so it would home out, but now when I go to mdi & do a simple thing like "m3 s1000" I get a machine alarm light. No message, just the light. Help, help!!! Thanks for all of it, by the way... Mike R.
  6. Hardinge inc. used it when it was known as masterkey (I think that's right)... Mike R.
  7. Thanks James, I've been on the phone to both Miyano and Fanuc about 15 times each in the last 3 weeks. I got the machine smarter yesterday, but some of the parameters still are whacked. Both Miyano and Fanuc faxed us a parameter list (both different), and neither worked. Checked the numbers about 6 times to make sure they're right. Thanks for your reply, & I'll keep on trying.. (I shouldn't have sold my boat last year....) Mike R.
  8. Hi James! I'm a relative new comer to mcam, started in 96 with v6. Liked V7 a whole lot better. I normally throw out old software (like a fool), so I don't even have V7.2C.. C-ya! Mike R.
  9. A company donated this machine to us, has twin spindle & live tooling, parts catcher, etc, etc. Whilst it was powered down, someone took out the batteries. The company that donated the machine no longer has the parameters.... OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Been trying to get the right parameters from both Miyano and Fanuc (it's an OT controller), to no avail. Does anyone have the parameters for a sister machine that I could download??? Thanks all, this is a big one for me! Mike R
  10. Thanks all, but I'm sure the code is ok. That's even the way it's written in the manual. Millturn, I'm using G43, entering negative offsets (-10.000), and used both gage length and tool tip numbers. I know they're ok, cuz the machine picks up the numbers and they work. Just when I try to go home do I have a problem. Jay, nope I wrote this one by hand (the code I typed was just an example) The zeros are really zeros, the decimal point is really there...I've had nothing but problems with this machine since the beginning.... Thanks all, and I'll try some of your suggestions when I get back to work on Monday! Mike R. ????????????????????????
  11. This is NOT a problem with mcam, but rather a strange quirk our HMC has. Here's some lines of code: GO G17 G20 G40 G55 G80 G90 M6 T1 M3 S1000 G43 Z.1 H1 M8 G1 Z-.5 F50. X-2. F20 Z.1 M9 G0 G91 G28 Z0. G91 G28 X0. Y0. M30 What it does, is feed to a z of .1 above the work, turn the coolant off, then RAPID TOWARDS the work before returning to ref zero (g28). (This is a CELLCON HMC with a Fanuc om control) In other words, I'm sure this should work, but if I let this code run, I would crash without a doubt. Any insight? Thanks in advance! Mike R. 12. Hi Kathy! I guess you could say that teaching and learning are my hobbies. Truth is, my wife is a serious home body. Need I say more? BUT, I love learning more and more about cnc's, programming, and designing silly little parts. Soooo, I guess I'm happy with my hobby, which is my work!! C-Ya!! Mike R.
  13. From my experience, if you're gonna use HSS, the sfm should be about 20, and you need to put the feed "right to it". Your cutter should have a pretty high shear angle, and you should flood the heck out of it, lest it work hardens, and your basically screwed. I never had good luck cutting inconel with indexable tooling, either. Hope that helps! Mike R.
  14. Programmers in the upstate area make between 35K to 70K. Two of my latest graduates out of our machine tool aas degree got jobs as programmers starting at 40k. A really nice house is around 90K, beer is about 7.00 12 pack (labatts blue)....I'm staying here... Mike R.
  15. Here's my tip, as arcane as it is, keep a copy of the "machining data handbook" or the machinery's handbook (23rd addition -n- later) next to your 'puter. 4cs/d, #Teeth X CL X dia. Mike R.
  16. My hobby is playing with mcam. I need a life...anyone got one for sale?????? Mike R. [This message has been edited by Michael Reynolds (edited 07-15-2001).]
  17. Hi Jay! I, being so efficient, waited till I was comfortable with V8, then rid myself of 7.2. That disk was taking up precious space in my office. DOH!!!!!!!!!!! If you could zip it -n- send it to me, I'd be forever in your debt, sir. By the way, I'm still checking out verification software. I just looked at SWI's n-vision 2000 software. Not impressed. Another question about predator: When performing canned drilling cycles (I know it doesn't support), when the tool is at the z depth, it doesn't look like it retracts above the part before moving to the next hole. Whassup wiff dat? Thanks Jay (you da man!) Mike R.
  18. Ok, so here's how I'm gonna hafta do my drawings that require gd&t. I'll create the geometry I need in Mcam, then convert it to a dxf, open it in acad, and dimension it. Is that silly, or what??? Mike R.
  19. I also teach machining and cadcam at the community college level. I've had two African American students in all of my 5 years teaching. I've also only had 4 ladies in that same period. Mike R.
  20. Gotcha. Kind of a bummer, but it will have to suffice... Thanks all!!!!!! Mike R.
  21. Ya, cycle time, that sounds like the problem in a nut shell. I can bring in fasteners, but as soon as I try to put in things that have numbers or letters, bad things start to happen. Jay, what do you mean "show it the mcam8 dir"? Mayhaps that's what I'm doin' wrong? (I'm steppin away for a bit now, takin' the kids to a park) Thanks fer the replies! Mike R. [This message has been edited by Michael Reynolds (edited 07-07-2001).]
  22. Hi Jay! I unzipped it to the c-hooks dir. Was that wrong? Also, when I do an alt c in mcam, I can see two easy draw's: 1 easydraw.dll, and an easydraw1.dll. I'll try unistalling it, then reinstalling it to just the mcam81 dir. Ok tried that -n- it didn't work. But I got a message that said sumpin like shared swap dll not found, er sumpin.??? Thanks Jay, Mike R. [This message has been edited by Michael Reynolds (edited 07-07-2001).]
  23. Hi all! I'm still trying to figer out why easy draw dll won't work properly. I get a memory table message that says "memory table item not found (21534892), then the "mill8 will now close" message. Easy draw says that it could be a problem in mcam (and yes, they say it is compatible with v8). I've also tried to uninstall mcam & reinstall it, to no avail. Any ideas out there? Is there a setting in screen, config that may need to be adjusted, or am I just plain out of luck? Thanks all! Mike R>
  24. 38 years old (I think..) Been in machining all my life. My dad was (is) an old school toolmaker, and at 35 started teaching tech mech & tool & die at our local trade school. He started his own machine shop, which to this day is pretty big in our area. Sooo, I grew up in a machine shop. Not that I was interested, but because he didn't trust me (as a teenager), so he dragged me with him. I appreciate it now, but then???? So I got my papers, went to college for a bs in techical education, and started teaching Machine Tool Technology. Had to learn cadcam "on the fly", but any toolmaker/nc setup/operator can learn mcam quickly. Now I have access to 3 cnc lathes, 6 VMC's, and various other manual mills, lathes, grinders whenever I want them. As well as having UG and mcam to program them. Now it's a BALL!!!!!! I love my job!!!!!!!!! Mike R.
  25. Gstephens, is that operator still working with you??????? Mike R.
