  1. Hi Steve, Check out Hugh Venables post on chamfering, located just below, the guys did an excellent job of clearing up how to go about doing a 2D chamfer. Hope this helps! Mike R.
  2. Ya, Happy Thanksgiving to all! Mike R.
  3. So is restmilling another way of doing a remachining operation? Also, I couldn't find it anywhere in my tool path operations. Where is it?? thanks all, Mike R.
  4. Thanks Gstephens!!!!!!!!Worked like a charm! Mike R.
  5. I looked for a containment boundary setting, and couldn't find one. I'm surely missing somthing. And I haven't tried it yet, but the max z depth sounds promising too...I'll let you know sometime during the next three days. Thanks all!1 Mike R.
  6. Hi All! Is there any way to get studio effects from solids (no surfaces)? Thanks! Mike R.
  7. Hi All! I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I'm not that good at solid machining. I've created a disk that has a drafted boss on it, and when I try to do a pocket (solid) toolpath on it, it tries to machine down the sides of the disk, when all I want is the top and boss machined. Any suggestions? Thanks fer listenin' Mike R.
  8. Hi Tom, Actually, you are probably not limited to "900" lines of code, but rather so many "K", or bytes of information. Suggest using filter, reducing your accuracy to 3 decimal places, and deleting sequence numbers. These things will significantly reduce the size of your nc program, thereby increase your capability. 4K is a lot of money.... Hope this helps! Mike R.
  9. If anyone is interested, I put a few more mcam projects up on my web page. They include spot, peck, tap, c'bore(g82), contour, pocket (to islands), and c & t plane work. All you have to do is click on the pic and it'll open up the part in your mcam. If you check them out, please let me know what you think! http://cadfree.corning-cc.edu/~reynolds/mastercam_parts.htm Thanks all! Mike R. [ 11-11-2001: Message edited by: Michael Reynolds ]
  10. Glad I could help, Rory! The more I play with master post, the more I learn! Take care! Mike R.
  11. Hi Rory! I was just looking around in that post, and there is a question #"Limit rotary indexing between 0 and 360? (0=no, 1=yes) My default is set to no, so you might try changing that 0 to a one and see what it does. Hope this helps! Mike R.
  12. Hi James! I agree that their should be differences between the nature of posts in these two forums. I guess I was just dissapointed by the infrequency of posts here. BTW, thanks for the post help yesterday!~ Also, the DFM projects are now on my web site under "advanced verbal projects". More to come... Respectfully, Mike R.
  13. I've been following this "sub" forum since it's inception and I'm wondering if it's really needed. Like my subject, I ask this question in the most respectful manner, but it seems to me that all of these posts could have been done on the main forum. Whadaya think? (I'm just thinking that if this forum went away, the same questions could be asked and the webmaster's life may be made easier) Like I said, respectfully, Mike R. (BTW, my web page is up with the DFM stuff on it)
  14. Hi Hugh! Well, first of all, in the post, I added these lines: "GOG90G54" "G49Z0HO" "G28Z0" When I should have added these lines: pbld, n, "G0", "G90", "G54" pbld, n, "G49", "Z0", "H0" pbld, n, "G28", "Z0." I don't know much about editing posts, but I know that this worked. I thank Bryan, Mike Frieman, and In House Solutions for helping me with this problem. I learned ALOT from all of them! Thanks and I hope this helps! Mike R. [ 11-08-2001: Message edited by: Michael Reynolds ] [ 11-08-2001: Message edited by: Michael Reynolds ]
  15. Nevermind, all. I got it. Bryan was right, I just didn't read it carefully enough. I put in "G0G54G90" instead of having quotes around the INDIVIDUAL g codes. I have since directed myself to sit in the corner in "time out" for the remainder of the night... Thanks for your help Bryan!! Mike R.
  16. I tried that, but it didn't work. I'm trying to modify MP EZ post. Any other suggestions? Thanks for your help! Mike R.
  17. How do I get MP EZ post to output the following at the end of each operation, and before the M01? "G0 G90 G54" "G49 Z0 H0" "G28 Z0" (without the G91) thanks for all your excellent help!! Mike R. (lifelong Mcam user/learner)
  18. James, Jay & Ricky: Hi guys! So I'm sitting here trying to do a "cut away view". I create a spline around the geometry I want to hatch. I get the same message about "chain not closed". So I tried the "squash" c hook on your advice. Worked like a charm! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Mike R. (lifelong mastercam learner)
  19. When I created the first part of the, well, part, I used mode (I shouldn't have). Then I added what should have been the boss, but was actually another solid. I have since just recreated the part correctly. But still, is that what "sewing" is? thanks fer the reply, Trevor! Mike R.
  20. Hi again. I created a part that ended up being two solids. Is there a way to join them? I ask because when I try to go into the "layout" c hook, it only lets me pick one of the solids. Thanks in advance! Mike R. (NON DESIGN ENGINEER)
  21. Since this was my question, I'll ring in again. First, thanks for the replies. I appreciate all of them. I am NOT a "degreed engineer". I am a Journeyman Toolmaker who has a BS degree in technical education. That's why I post questions like this, I'm trying to get better at doin' drawings that are technically correct. And thanks to your replies, I am. I DO NOT TEACH drafting, so the parts I design are for the purpose of manufacture. I just don't want anyone to think I teach drafting without knowing the standards. I have since "redone" the dimension to include a cut away view, replacing the hidden lines with solid lines. Thanks again for your input! Mike R.
  22. Thanks to all for the help on this one! Hi Jay! Yup, I looked at the book, and it was better than any I've seen (I have'nt seen Charles Davis' book yet, I must say). The books are good, but I'd really like to see one that has "tool" based projects in it. Like 5C collet stops, tooling plates, tombstone work, etc. Most project books seem to be geared more for junior/high school students. Just my 2C on this one. I keep telling myself that one of these summers I'll write one of my own. (I don't mean to sound errogant, I want you to know) Anyway, my pure mastercam class is 15 weeks long (2hrs lec., 3hrs lab) We also teach it in other 2nd year classes (tool design & cnc machining). (I TRUELY DID NOT mean to discredit or disrespect any of the authors of mcam books!!!) Hope this helps! Thanks fer listnin' Mike R (humble MasterCAM user)
