  1. On one of my computers, SP1 installed fine. On another it wont- I get error 1327 invalid drive s:\ The S drive is a network drive where the mastercam data files are as well as my shared folder. Both computers have mastercam installed in the default location on the C drive.
  2. How do you switch to the old style backplot in X7? I ran a migration and it switched to the new style.
  3. When solid chaining various single edges on a model for a toolpath (for instance a contour), it shows only 1 solid edge in the chain manager. Is it possible to have it make multiple separate solid chains? That would make it easier to delete one out in case a wrong selection is made. I can do it if I select 1, exit selection and the add another chain.
  4. I have noticed this a lot too. I thought it was just me forgetting to change the numbers. It usually happens after I create the tool path and then go back later and change the tool number. It doesnt seem to stay updated on the offsets.
  5. We are looking at adding an additional cam software sometime in the future and was wondering from experience what other brands people would recommend and recommend to stay away from. We want to be in the same price range as Mastercam. It needs to do 3 and 4 axis milling as well as 2 axis lathe with the possibility of later adding a dual spindle live tooling lathe. We have looked at Featurecam and Edgecam the closest, but wanted more user, non salesman perspectives.
  6. I like to use the high speed spiral for creating 82 degree chamfers in parts. I seem to have a problem though with it always wanting to start at the work up. This make it plunge into material. I use a surface as a drive and a containment boundary. Does anyone know a way to do this- starting from the top and working down?
  7. So what is better, a FX-4800 or the Quadro-2000. I am looking at a new card too.
  8. Is there a way to limit the decimal places shown in Mastercam? Say I select an arc for the depth, it it showing me around 6 or 7 decimals, because the geometry is not on Z0.0 or Z-0.25, it may be on Z-0.2500011. Posting is showing fine with 4 decimal places.
  9. I thougth it was also to convert a bunch of files at once into the latest version. I know it used to work because we would get about 30 dwg files at a time and with one click it would save all of them into MC format. Saved a ton of time.
  10. I've used the import folder option a lot and it seems to not be working. When I try to import DWG files, it does not import the solid model in the file. If I open the file, the solid model is there.
  11. I figured a way to do it. I used a bore cycle that stopped the spindle before retracting. (G86 cycle) I set the retract to -0.05" inc and the depth higher than underside of part. The only hand editing I had to do was on the previous drill, remove the M05 at the end of the tool and the M03 of the beginning of the back chamfer. Works perfect.
  12. I was wondering how you normally program a Cogsdill back chamber tool. I have to feed into a hole without the tool turning because of the geometry. It is a spring loaded insert style.
  13. We just purchased a Haas ec400 horizontal mill. Is anyone using machine simulation with this machine? If so, are you using a standard included model or a custom made one?
  14. I am trying to do a 3/8 NPT thread with a carbide threadmill that has 12 teeth. The tool has the taper built in so do I not need a taper angle in the threadmill parameters?
  15. There is an option for an early power detection feature- I dont know if it can be installed after the machine is built though.
  16. Its coated. I started running it at 250 sfm and 0.001 per tooth. 0.008" x 2 multi passes and 1 spring cut. Seems to be working great.
  17. I am about to thread mill a 3/8-24 thread in 4140 heat treated to 32rc. Thread depth is .74" My cutter has 3/4 of thread flute. I was wondering recommended speed/feed if anyone had them and do you cut in a single pass, multi pass, and a spring cut. I am not worried about saving every last second, just long tool life.
  18. Thats how we run ours. Get a converter cable at best buy for around $30. You have to install the driver cd and it should work flawless. To get a cable we use Shop floor Automation stuff in California. They are really nice and have the adapters for the machine and interface cable.
  19. On the tool offset page enter either a positive or negative number in the taper column. It is based on 0.0001" per inch. Start with 0.0002". I THINK a positive # makes it smaller at the chuck and neg is larger.
  20. We need to cut an internal thread that is 1.812 12tpi. It isnt 60 deg though. It is 120 deg, so it's a really shallow thread. Is it possible to cut with standard threading inserts by offseting the cuts? I really didn't want to grind custom inserts.
