  1. thanks for your compassion. it's a whole new world.... like dynamic mill , I just set up an opti rough to try in the new year for the first time. lol
  2. yup, that gives some room for graphics I have similar. no ribbons but the titles for when I need. all my favs. on hot keys and QAT getting by. 4 axis vmc thx.
  3. some days I want to throw stuff like when i started with V7... wanted to kill the PC daily!!
  4. I just have growing pains trying to function in a changed workspace . not saying a lot of stuff aint better. only tough to get through because I used V9 until a few years ago. then took a break been on 2017/18 for a couple months now.
  5. That is what I said, but it used to work differently. It would make the geometry as you back plotted. now it is more like a snapshot.
  6. that is different from the old v9. so many things changed, every time i turn around im' lost again
  7. in the little backplot window, looks like a floppy diskette beside the camera
  8. there is a setting to save tool path as geometry in back plot, if that got hit those may be lines and arcs...
  9. project your text onto a cylindrical surface of the correct dia. then use 3d contour. or you can project the tool path after it is on the 2d text, not sure how that works now a days...
  10. When we were prototyping fixtures for blackberry, the volume of small jobs, with the speed of cutting plastics made for a world where approach was nearly irrelevant. three machines had a group of tools the same in each one. The carbide lasted for ever... it was great. we had those troubles some. also... V9 will save wrong if u escape out of the tool path manager, then save it will miss your changes! It took me years to figure out why files were saved incomplete because it was so erratic !!
  11. Be careful with your m00 , I had to click force tool change in the path after the manual entry moo that I used the other day (mc2018), or the spindle would not start for the next operation!!! the coolant stayed off too. It worked OK on a 2d path, but not the finish contour that I used next. the post missed the m 3s1234.
  12. I like to have the backup fire into the folder of origin but with the name "Backup ss". that way you get a choice of back ups for all the different jobs. Each station gets their own designation like "backup george" and so on so even if the same file is modified two places then you get both backups side by side.
  13. Ohhhh noooo does this mean i'm not going to want to play with it... why buy the thing if I don't get to play? it may sit in a drawer and become obsolete if I can't play ... we are all children at heart. Mastercam is the only video game that I play, otherwise it would be too much screen time for me. since the keyboard is a lot less useful now Thanks, cnc software, this thing sounds like a good option even if u say it's no TOY.
  14. yup, I hear u... the Walmart career may be in my future! It's a good thing I set up and run the cnc too, breaking stress from my poor mouse hand. Although health care is almost free here, I still think surgery sounds bad! I will look more at these toys. thanks for your input. sts.
  15. So, Gcode, you use both? how many hands do you have? lol maybe down south u get three hands? not here in Canada. would be nice tho. I had never heard of these toys before today, ( ya i don't get out much), they are sure pricey over $600. Canadian. looks like HP has one for close to $2000.00 !! If I only had a ,(brain), third hand, I could use one.
  16. I don't understand why they sell a cad mouse with the package deal , if this fantastic mouse replaces your regular mouse then why do u want another normal looking one?
  17. They have the recent function bar on the left, its still more work but that's what i use sometimes.
  18. I turned off those ribbons untill i need one, then put everything most common on the QAT. then shift the QAT to be under the other ribbon, next to the graphics screen. best i can do so far.
  19. In some cases tab o works or keep hitting tab until the check is highlighted, then enter.
  20. I was doing it this way until i set up the QAT with a toolpath section. now its only one click, but if I use the key board, it's three different keys... clumsy. Any thing to get my mouse hand to leave the mouse is a good move... so I put up with it for now.
  21. This is what i'm telling Tech support in my e-mails lately. It's nice to see others with similar habits. I don't like to " move the mouse cursor away from the work." it seems counter productive. I was held back on v9 all thru the x series so the change to 2018 is not bad so far, it seems easier than the X's were to learn. you're absolutely right about how important the keyboard interface is tho . I hope they will see this issue and help !!!
  22. oh no ! I may be stuck with clumsy keys for ever? maybe I'll retire early. 2018 blues I miss v9 ! it is still pretty slick when you know the keys.
  23. The big change was after v9. when X came out a lot of people stayed back with v9. the learning curve was too much for them. Small business owners had no time to loose relearning to program . It was frustrating to be held back that way.
  24. So I tried the search here because I figured that the problem is totally Rookie for post editors, But I saw nothing usefull in the results. maybe there is a way to fine tune the search? Thanks. Steve.
  25. It's all good now.. thx mpmaster is doing what i hoped for. I managed to find all the defaults to set up the master to work for me. ya don't get to say that to often in life! lol steve.
