  1. Found it. Its on page 4 of the Installation guide. Its a secured pdf file that won't let you copy the text or I would have posted it. Sorry, too lazy to type it out. It does make some references to other procedures that can be used to convert some of those files.
  2. I thought I read in one the X4 installation documents that migration would only work if migrating from X3. It specifically said it wouldn't work for X2 or earlier. I poked around a bit but couldn't find it again. Maybe someone else read that too?
  3. Why don't we have any default boring bars in the lathe tool libraries that use a standard 80 degree diamond insert? The default seems to be 75 degrees. I challenge anyone to show me a sandvik or Kennametal catalog with a 75 degree boring bar and insert. The point is that it is just another poor default value that we have to change manually. No, I do not want to, nor should I have to create my own library for something that is used on a daily basis by almost every lathe user out there. (Rant Off) I think this is worth ranting about. Maybe I am missing a piece of the puzzle. If so, please correct me. In future versions it would be nice to have some better defaults right out of the box. I prolly posted this before but today is one of those days.
  4. I have not seen or heard of any tool libraries other than the ones that come bundled into the Mastercam software. If you use "create a new tool", and you choose the threading tool category, it has a field for TPI. If it is a general threading tool that can be used for various TPI, I would just enter your most commonly used TPI and feed rate. Then for each job you program just change the TPI and feed rate accordingly with "edit the tool". If you think your "cutter dimensions" are only good for a specific TPI, then it should be listed in that manufacturer's catalog. This is not something you would normally calculate based on cutter dimensions.
  5. It won't run on my Windows 7, but I am using Windows 7 64 bit OS.
  6. Also be aware that if it is a canned rough face, you may have to extend the start of countour much more than .100. Lets say your stock diameter is a max of 4.0, but your face chain starts at 3.0, then you will need to extend your start of contour (on the lead-in page) by at least .600
  7. Make sure you have a check mark on extend contour to stock. Make sure you use extend start of contour by .100 or more. I had to to this recently to get things to work properly.
  8. This thing is like a portable magnetic base sliding drill, but with a 3-jaw chuck as a base instead of a magnet, right? I had one these 20 years ago. I have spent hours on the internet looking for one these but can't find them anywhere.
  9. Use create spline - "curve spline" command to convert your chain of lines & arcs into a spline. This will make the linerization tolerance field available. I just tried it on a circle that I converted to a spline, and the g-code comes out as G01 moves this way.
  10. Just installed X4 on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 without any problems. The general procedure below is how I have always installed Mastercam. I very rarely have any problems with the install. The only time I see problems is if I try to migrate settings, or if I forget to give users full priveleges to the mcamx folder when networked. 1. Did a windows update, got all the latest downloads (Windows 7 Ultimate 64 in this case), then re-booted the computer. (Usually do a cc cleaner and defrag too, but didn't this time) 2. Downloaded the Mastercam X4-web.exe file from www.mastercam.com and saved it to the desktop 3. Disabled Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 4. Right clicked on Mastercam X4-web.exe file that was previouly downloaded to the desktop 5. Left clicked on "run as administrator" 6. Chose "yes" to allow program from unkown publisher to make changes to computer 7. Chose "OK" to English Language 8. Popup window says Mastercam is preparing the Install Scheild Wizard, please wait 9. After a few moments, the install sheild icon appears on the windows task bar. Waited untill it turned orange, and then clicked on it. 10. The X4 Install screen now appeared, clicked on "next" 11. Chose "Yes" to accept the license agreement 12. Entered user name and company name, and allowed all users to use this program, clicked next 13. Chose "leave previous version" and clicked next (it also had the choice to replace previous version) 14. The window now showed Mastercam will install to C:McamX4 - clicked next 15. Choose Hasp or Nethasp, and inch or metric, clicked next 16. Clicked "Install" to start the installation 17. Would you like to migrate? - Chose "No" 18. Target file (Aladdan???) is newer than source, do you want to replace it? Chose "no to all" 19. Chose "Finish" 20. Enabled Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 and it put Mastercam into the "low risk" group 21. Plugged in the hasp 22. Clicked the Mastercam X4 startup icon, and started programming with no alarms, warnings, or video problems.
  11. Thanks guys. It was a group color that could only be cleared by going to "groups" on the status bar. Like you guys said, I could change the color in there, or just delete the group.
  12. quote: just frustrating Erick, so did you try any of the suggestions above? Did any of them solve the problem from your original thread?
  13. In X3, I brought in an x_t part file and saved it as an mcx file. I changed the color of it just fine. Now I merged in another x_t file (the part blank) and it shows up red in color. Clear colors doesn't change it. If I analyze it, it says its gray #156. If I change the color it stays red but analyzing it says it is the new color. Screen stats says there are two solids which there are. Whats up with that?
  14. quote: I read about other issues related to hardware acceleration I think it was here Linky
  15. One 22" widescreen (Gateway FPD2275W TFT LCD. If it were my choice I would have two of them. While were at it, I'm startin to have a hankerin for a space pilot.
  16. Like I said in another thread, try running a program like cc cleaner or clean sweep to get rid of all the temp files and then defrag your hard drive. It can't hurt, and many times it has restored my classroom computers back into working order.
  17. In XP, right click on desktop, properties, settings, advanced, troubleshoot tab?
  18. Dave, I understand what you are saying now. The reason I do not have any dups is that I never save a tool back into the standard Mastercam libraries. I use the standard libraries only as templates. I copy one up into the upper part of the tool manager screen, and then make my edits there. Next I create or call up one of my own libraries and copy the edited tools from the top down to my library so I have them for other jobs later. I may have 4 different 1.0 inch end mills in my library, but they all have different names. 1.0A,1.0B, etc. One might be carbide, one might be HSS, one might be indexable carbide, corn cob rougher, short flutes, long flutes, etc. This method floats my boat, for some people it may not.
  19. No duplicate tools here either. If I say yes to "do you want to add another tool", I will also alter the name of that tool. ie. 1.0 flat endmill and 1.0A flat endmill.
  20. Has anyone used the mastercam editor or Cimco (in Vista 64) to send g-code to their machines? Its not working here.
  21. Getting alarm: incompatable 16 bit program. Also getting this alarm with the Mastercam editor. Is there a fix for this?
