drawing a helix

Can anyone of you highly enlightend folks tell me how to draw a 3D helix? I am just trying to draw an ACME thread.

From the Create menu select next menu then SpiralHexil...

if you wanted to do it the hard way draw half of a circle in one plane, rotate it from the edge in the perpendicular plane by the angle that your pitch works out to, create a plane from the arc, draw the other half of the circle and rotate it like the first one. should have one complete helix and can translate it for whatever length you need.

How about how to draw a 3D fillet tangent to two entities (maybe one being a spline just for fun). The fillet would be a set radii!

Kathy, The way I would tackle a 3d fillet, would be to adjust your c-plane accordingly and then create fillet normally.

 

In regards to the spline, if you can't convert it to an arc or arcs, then you will just have to pick the part of the spline, being a line, that will be tangent to the fillet.

Another way is to lay in some surfaces and create a surface fillet to the two surfaces and trim to the plane you want to view your fillet from and make your splines for your 2-d drawing.

I wish I could get out my magic marker and just draw - it would have been so much simpler!

 

I ended up creating a flat surface thru flat tangent lines, and projecting the curve onto the surface. Thanks Murlin!
