Solids problem

When I try to open a solid I worked on the last couple of days, I get the following error message: ""The instruction at "0X30303030" referenced memory at "0X30303030". The memory could not be "read." Click OK to terminate program. Click Cancel to debug program."" Then it crashes. I've had solid files get corrupt before but this is new to me. It seems to only happen at a subdirectory where I am making some mold revisions.

Has any one out there had a similar problem?

I saw it happening when file made with Mastercam Mill opened with design ,especially one step(servise pack ) backward .

As a backnote :

Always make backup of your work with autosave function to the different name ,use incremental backups like solid1,solid1_1 and etc, You will be able to get downward one step before the problem ,if the database is screwed (mostly because some geometry or association is lost or parasolid kernel generated error )

another point to take is ...always save a good solid....sometimes constructions lines get deleted or moved and this will cause your solid to be in need of regeneration....if you don't regenerate, then save....you will have problems upon file-get. (a warning will tell you this, DON'T IGNORE THIS WARING)

One thing I also do with solids is to put all solid construction line work on it's own level and mark the level "*****Solid Construction linework BE CAREFUL*****" Sometimes I even blank them so they have to unblank them to get them back. Also a separate file saved as a back-up is nice to have.

It appears that the only solids affected are the ones I hve in a subdirectory that I am using for revising a mold. I also noticed that on the upper right hand corner it shows a coordinated that goes to a negative 20 some decimal places. headscratch.gif My guess is that MC is trying to do a caculation and it just runs amok and eats up all the memory. The annoying thing is that this behavior is very inconsistent.

I have been trying to get boss man to get me some training in Solidworks so I can get most of the mold design done that way. I also found that after I design, say, an electrode, it's a good thing to save it as a parasolid and read it back to get rid of the solids history. I just hope MC X is a little more robust with solids. curse.gif

Kannon,

The best way to get rid of solid history is with the C-HOOK "NOHIST.DLL"

This allows you to keep the solid but breaks the association to all that geometry that everybody tip-toes around... Run no-hist and delete away... Just be aware that you'll have a "dumb" solid body after that and you can't modify things in the solid tree because it's not there anymore... I use that c-hook constantly.

Matt and Kannon.

The easiest way to CLEAN a solid of it's history is to export as Parasolid and then import it in to MC.

El Scotthead.

There used to be a C-Hook in Ver 8 that saved backups in numerical order.

I can't remember what they called it.

I'll look for it and let you know.
